Our food banks have been vital in the fight against hunger and poverty in Southwark during the cost of living crisis.
That’s why this week’s theft of food and hygiene products from Southwark Foodbank’s warehouse has been felt hard locally.
Pecan, the charity that runs the food bank and exists to help the whole community, say they are determined to bounce back.
They ask that people who can afford it might make a donation via Bankuet, or that people might come forward to offer their time.
If you can, please consider helping. It’s a desperate situation that food banks are needed in our communities, but for as long as they are, they will have our strong support.
Last year Southwark Council gave £110,000 directly in support to Southwark foodbanks, and almost £400,000 in support overall to Pecan including towards the food bank, and other work including employment support.
We know the cost of living crisis has not gone away, but we are here to help – with financial support, help with household costs – including information about food banks - wellbeing support and more.
We offer free school meals for primary, secondary, and nursery pupils and also school holiday meals including our holiday food and fun activities – the most comprehensive package of support in the country.
Through Rose Vouchers we have also supported hundreds of families with fresh fruit and veg from market stalls.
And our cost of living fund has helped more than 50,000 people in the last three years, including with energy bills and emergency support in a crisis.
If you need support with cost and living please see our website, including how to get in touch.
