We’re back! All you need to know about our revised library services and phased re-opening

Libraries re-opening

Canada WaterNunheadBlue AnchorCamberwell and Brandon libraries have now re-opened with a reduced service. These are the branches that can open safely in line with current social distancing guidelines.

Please check their new opening hours before you visit.

The safety of visitors and staff remains our priority, so you will notice a few changes, including hand sanitiser and screens around staff areas . All books will be cleaned and quarantined for 72 hours and we’ve introduced some new services so you can enjoy them safely.

Everyone loves a surprise! If you’re just dropping in to the library we’ve got plenty of mystery bags ready for you to pick up and borrow.

Some things we can’t offer at the moment

Unfortunately, we are still unable to offer the following services:

  • Public toilets
  • Printing
  • Public PCs and WiFi
  • Study space
  • Book browsing
  • Café provision

We hope to gradually reintroduce a full range of library services in the coming months. Please check our website for updates.

Things you can still enjoy online

Do remember that the BorrowBox e-Book and e-Audio services are always available. Become a library member today and have full access to our online resources.

We also have a whole programme of online activities for children based around the Summer Reading Challenge: Silly Squad. Find it here.

The Southwark Local History Library and Archives search room is currently unavailable to customers but you can still email the Archives team with your enquires. Visit Southwark’s e-museum. to browse historical images and objects from the Cuming Museum collection.

Show your love for your local library: Help it win the Race to Health

Yesterday (3 August) was the start of the Southwark Summer Race To Health family challenge! A fun, four week online challenge where children and adults join a virtual local library team. Try to complete 60 minutes of exercise every day to help your library win the race and win (virtual) medals for yourself. The winning library will get £250 of decathlon vouchers.

Race to health

The game follows Fred’s journey from the classic book, The Grizzly Bear That Lost His GRRRRR!  (by Rob Biddulph). You'll help our hero Fred to move around a game map and make some new friends along the way.
