Hello Bermondsey and Rotherhithe!
Welcome to your September newsletter. It has been very, very busy! Apologies for the delay.
I want to start off by saying thank you very much to everyone that attended the last community council forum meeting on Saturday the 8th of September at City Hope Church. For those who missed it, I have included the link to the recording below. The four rotating workshops (pictures below) worked well and attendees appreciated the opportunity to have these kind of discussions. Hopefully, we can do more meetings like this for the future. I know that many of our usual attendees were at the Farm for the Festival or at the Old Kent Road meeting and some went to the Folk Festival after the meeting. The reports are that everything went well and we all had a good time at which ever event we did make it to. It was a busy day!
Bermondsey Street Festival 2018 was last Saturday and it was fantastic! I especially enjoyed Cracked as it had one of our previous Auditel technicians, Viktor, playing in the band. That was a wonderful surprise! The Tanner Street Park food area was buzzing with excitement and the bands were awesome. The stalls dotted around all the streets also helped to bring the area to life. I also popped down to Bermondsey Square and saw one of our new NsF 2018-19 projects, UMAT Jazz Days in full swing!
There is a lot happening this weekend so please get involved and get out and enjoy it all. All the details are below. Next month sees a whole host of Black History month activities and the link to that is below.
Two important things to remember, applications for the Neighbourhoods Fund and the Cleaner, Greener, Safer Fund for 19/20 projects are open! Please see both links below and leaflets too!
Have a great rest of the month and a great start to October!

As part of a
programme of works to determine ground conditions and locate the position of
underground utilities as part of the Canada Water Masterplan, a trial pit has
been dug across Deal Porters Way, from 10 September until 23 October.
A section of Deal Porters Way will be diverted
for this period through a route in the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre Car Park.
Please pay close attention to the diversion signs. Pedestrian crossings in the
car park will remain open for use throughout this duration. We apologise for
any inconvenience. The shopping centre will remain open as usual and there will
be no disruption for those using buses or the car park.

On Saturday 22 September Southwark Council’s Road Safety and Sustainable Travel Team will be taking part in World Car Free Day on Bermondsey Street.
On this day the section of Bermondsey Street between St Thomas Street/Crucifix Lane and Whites Grounds will be closed to traffic.
The idea behind the day is to encourage everyone to walk, cycle, or scoot around the borough rather than use their cars. In addition, Car Free Day will be a great opportunity to see what Bermondsey Street and other areas within the borough could look like as a car free space and the benefits that this can bring.
From 12 – 5pm there will be pedal powered smoothies, air quality snakes and ladders, ‘Tell us about your journey’ video diaries with the chance to win a £50 voucher, cycling entertainment and more.
Come down, join in and get inspired to go car free!

This is a gentle reminder that Southwark Council is currently consulting on an intermediate
rent waiting list. Please see the link below. The deadline is 11th October. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/housing-community-services-department-community-engagement-team/intermediate-housing-list/
You may be aware that the council funds Community Southwark to provide services that support
the voluntary and community sector (VCS) and volunteering in the
borough. It has an important strategic role as the umbrella body
(“Council for Voluntary Service” or CVS) for the VCS, as well in
supporting volunteering and social action in the borough.
The current
contract ends in March 2019 and as part of developing a new service we want to
hear from the local VCS about your current and future needs, so
please could you complete the brief consultation document via the link below:
