Walk to School month... let's keep it going

All October we have been encouraging everyone to pull on their autumn boots, wellies or trainers and rate their everyday walks using our nifty online tool to help us celebrate International Walk to School Month.

Millions of children, parents, carers and teachers across the globe have been taking part. Now let's wrap up the month in style!

Even if you're not walking to school, you can help us by rating another everyday walk - to work, the shops of just for leisure.

Rating your walk will make it even more fun and may even make you see your local streets differently. We’ll also give you a walkability score and some tips for what you can do to improve your streets.

Support this local start up AVIVA bid

Sugarlane Sounds, is an A/V creative agency, online radio station and sounds system operating out of the UK and Jamaica. The objective will be to create a sustainable studio environment that will engage many of our young talented artist to create audio and visual art despite environment, background or circumstance, as well as giving a professional working environment for working artist and musicians. This will be held at Peckham Levels which will be one of Southwark’s Landmark creative spaces, a 7 level multi-story complex hosting some of south London’s most exciting artist and independent businesses, hosting an array of food, drinks, workshops and entertainment creating a rich, unique environment for young creatives.

we plan to set up several music and art based programmes, which will reach out to the local schools, colleges, universities, youth groups, programmes, artist and influencers so that there is direct contact and access with all the hard to reach young talented people around the borough. There will be opportunities available for individuals who want to learn graphic design, music technology, film, photography and DJ’ing but also the opportunity to express themselves and turn positive and negative energy into art utilising the studio & editing suite. Working alongside PEMPEOPLE who have helped lots of young people in the borough to host their projects at their pop up shop in Peckham are also Tate Partners, which grants them access to the 5th floor of the Tate for several days every year to showcase art produced by the youth, creating a path from the community to a platform normally out of reach.

Receiving funding for this studio will ensure that it is fully equipped with the needed studio gear and personnel to execute our audio & visual art projects most efficiently and allow the community access to the space. In turn we would be alleviating youths from the streets, creating a safer neighbourhood atmosphere, giving young creatives an environment suitable for nurturing their talents and ideas, giving them a new sense of purpose.

The New Southwark Plan

Informal consultation notification: New Southwark Plan: Proposed Submission Version

Southwark Council is preparing a new borough-wide development plan called the New Southwark Plan. The New Southwark Plan sets out how the Council will deliver further regeneration and wider improvements for the borough in the years to come. Planning decisions must be made in accordance with the development plan, unless other material considerations indicate otherwise.

The proposed final version of the plan is now available to view on the Council’s website. This is the version the Council intends to adopt. The Plan will first be taken to the Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday 31 October 2017. The Plan will then be taken to full Council Assembly on 29 November 2017.

Subject to the approval of Council Assembly the Council will begin formal consultation on the New Southwark Plan from 1 December 2017 to 12 January 2018. Following the consultation the Plan will be submitted to Government for an independent examination where an inspector will consider any comments submitted to the Council during the consultation period.

We will write to you again when the formal consultation period begins setting out how to comment on the Plan. In the meantime you can view the Cabinet Report and supporting documents, including the New Southwark Plan, on the Council’s website here.
