Hello Everyone!
Welcome to your Bermondsey and Rotherhithe newsletter for
July 2017!
Summer Starts HERE!
It has been a month full of activity and fun times for
everyone. I visited the Astley & Cooper Funday and the Rotherhithe Festival
on Saturday 16th and they were great fun. Also the Indonesian
Weekend Event was last weekend. See the pictures posted in Indonesian
Weekend 2017. It is also either weeks to go to the Bermondsey Street Festival on the 16th September.
It is also the start of the long anticipated school holidays
and many families will be taking some time off to spend with their children.
Southwark has many summer activities planned specifically at this time of the
year for children across the borough so please take advantage of them. I have
listed some below, but there are many others.
At the last Bermondsey and Rotherhithe Community Council
Meeting on the 21 June, you decided on the themes for your future meetings. Therefore,
the theme for your next meeting is around crime and there will be some focus on
young people in relation to knife crime, anti-social behaviour and other
issues. The date for this is Tuesday 12 September at 160 Tooley Street, SE1 2QH, starting
promptly at 7pm. It is set to be a great community discussion with some
positive future outcomes for you all to be involved with.
If there is anything that I have missed or if there is a
community event that you would like me to promote, please feel free to call or
email me. I would be more than happy to put this on our Facebook page. My phone
numbers are on 0207 525 1780 / 07701377162 or email on bridget.galloway@sutton.gov.uk
Have Fun!

It’s that time of
year again when children aged 4 to 11 years are challenged to read any six
books during the summer holiday and receive rewards after each book.
This year there’s
something peculiar happening at the local library and that’s where the Animal
Agents come in! It’s a detective agency manned by all kinds of clever animals;
furry, scaly and slippery – and these guys are out to crack the case with a
little help from their friends. From solving the case of the graffiti writing
to the strange case of a missing lunch, children will join in the fun with the
Animal Agents by reading along.
As children read
library books on the Summer Reading Challenge, they will receive a host of
stickers, some with mysterious smells. By collecting the stickers on their
collector folder, young readers will help the Animal Agents find out what’s
really been going on behind the scenes and who is to blame!

Period poverty
remains one of the UK’s most shocking issues, and the high cost of sanitary
products has received lots of coverage recently – from young girls missing
school due to not being able to afford them to the pressures on homeless women
and low income families.
The Periodical
Diary project, created by two council staff members, is running a charity
donation drive, asking members of the public and Southwark Council workers to
donate sanitary products.
The Periodical
Diary’s Big Knicker Day will be held in the Tooley Street Foyer on Wednesday 26
July between 10am and 4pm, with another donation event at the Aylesbury Central
Neighbourhood Office on the same day (please ask for Jorina Fory).
Products that can
be accepted:
- Tampons
- Sanitary Pads
- Panty Liners
- Moon Cups
- Hand Sanitisers
- Zip Lock Bags
The donations
will be passed on to Southwark's no recourse to public funds (NRPF) team and
the School-Home Support (SHS) charity which supports children in schools.

please contact the Periodical Diary’s Karleen
