Tell us what topics you want discussed at Bermondsey and Rotherhithe community council
One of the main aims of Community Council
meetings is for people to have a say on matters that affect their
areas. It is very important that the Community Councils discuss topics
that reflect the issues that matter most to local people and this is your opportunity
to tell us what they are. Feedback from the meetings has also indicated that
people would like to have more of a say on what is discussed at these meetings.
So, we would greatly appreciate it, please, if you
could spend a couple of minutes givingus your suggestions about the topics you would like discussed at
the next 4 Community Council meetings by going tohttp://tinyurl.com/gl4j2z3
The topics you suggest should be matters that
would be of interest to people who live and work in the area. The more
detail you can provide on what you want to talk about, the easier it will
be for us to plan and invite the right speakers and participants
when the chosen topics are discussed at the meeting.
This consultation will close on the 31st
August and we will announce the most popular suggestions at the next Community Council meeting
which will take place on Tuesday 13th
September and in our September e-newsletter.
Would you like to receive regular updates about planning consultations and policies?
Southwark’s Planning Policy team consult
on a number of important plans and documents that shape the future of the borough.
This includes setting out the regeneration strategy for Southwark and all of
our neighbourhoods. They prepare the planning policies that planning applications
will be assessed against such as the Old Kent Road Area Action Plan. These planning policies are set out in the
development plan documents that need to be consulted on at several stages of
their preparation.
So,if you would like to get involved and to
receive regular updates about this, then why not register on MySouthwark at https://my.southwark.gov.uk/ and
create a MySouthwark account. Once registered and logged in, you will then be
able to click “view/edit profile” on the main page and, at the bottom right
hand corner, click the tick box to “opt in” to Southwark Council’s planning
policy consultation notification emails. Once you have confirmed this (by

The future of Burgess Park
In recent
months we've been consulting on various aspects of Burgess
Park . People who use the park have told us what they want, and as a result we
will be investing £8.2 million into Burgess Park West, new toilets near the
lake, improving the toilets at Chumleigh Gardens, repair of the Glengall Wharf
garden wall, improving drainage on the east side of the park, and bidding to
the sports governing bodies to bring in even more money to improve the Sports
Centre and tennis courts.

TFL undertook
a consultation between 25 January and 6 March 2016 which looked at proposals to
extend route 42 via Red Post Hill, East Dulwich Grove, Dog Kennel Hill to East
Dulwich Sainsbury’s. The aim of which is to improve links to both East and
North Dulwich and to Sainsbury’s.
TFL also
proposed to change the route from single to double deck buses.
After
considering all of the feedback received, TFL have concluded that they will
proceed with implementing the changes as originally proposed from October 2016.
Please visit
our website at tfl.gov.uk/buses/bus-route-42to view their consultation report and
responses to key issues raised for more information.
TFL BUS 53 Temporary Route Change update
Sometimes
it’s necessary to make temporary changes to our services, as a result of work
undertaken by others. Where possible, we try to return services to normal as
soon as possible, although the cumulative impact of road works along route 53
has resulted in a prolonged temporary arrangement.
From
Saturday 23 July 2016 route 53 will be extended from Lambeth North to
start and finish at Whitehall, Horse Guards once again. The last stop will be
‘Horse Guards Parade’ on Whitehall.
Towards
Plumstead passengers can board the bus from stop ‘P’ Horse Guards Avenue in
Whitehall.
Also
from this date new Euro VI compliant battery hybrid double deck buses will be
introduced on route 53.
An email is
being sent to all users of route 53 who have a registered Oyster card informing
them of this change.
Proposals for the A100 Tower Bridge Road junction with Queen Elizabeth Street, Southwark
TFL are consulting on proposals to improve pedestrian crossing and cycle facilities at this junction and ban the left-turn except cycles southbound on Tower Bridge Road heading into Queen Elizabeth Street to reduce through-traffic and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The consultation will close on Monday 29 August 2016.
We would also resurface the road at the junction and renew the footway.
These changes would mean southbound vehicles would need to take a different route into Queen Elizabeth Street eastbound as it would no longer be possible to turn into it from Tower Bridge Road. This would reduce through-traffic using residential streets. We also expect it would attract more cyclists to the already-busy cycle route by making it safer and giving continuity along the route and a link with the planned Cycle Superhighway 4.
If, following this consultation, we decide to go ahead with these improvements, we expect to carry-out the works in October 2016 to co-incide with the planned temporary closure of Tower Bridge for structural work (currently scheduled for October 2016 to January 2017) to minimise disruption in the area.

Closure of Tower Bridge
The City of London Corporation is planning essential major maintenance
works to Tower Bridge in autumn/winter until the end of 2016. The works will
require a full closure of the bridge to all vehicle and cycle traffic for up to
three months, from Saturday 1 October 2016 to Friday 30 December 2016. The
closure will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Walking: A pedestrian closure
will be required for three weekends during the works. Dates for these closures
are currently being confirmed. Pedestrians will be able to cross the bridge as
normal at all other times.
Buses: There are three bus
routes that cross Tower Bridge and will be diverted.
Route 42
will be stop running on the south side of Tower Bridge - there will be no
service to stops further north during the works
Route 78
will be on diversion via London Bridge and will stop running at Liverpool
Street bus station. Services between inner southeast London and Tower
Hill, Aldgate and Liverpool Street will be maintained
Route RV1 is
already on partial diversion due to works taking place on Tooley Street.
It will be on a full diversion for the duration of the Tower Bridge works
and run from from Tower Hill via East Cheap and London Bridge. It will
then revert back to eastbound diversion until February 2018
Cycling: Cyclists can either
dismount and walk across the bridge or follow a diversion route that will be in
place.
Driving: The closure of Tower Bridge extends from the junction of Tower Bridge
Road and Queen Elizabeth Street on the south side to the traffic lights by the
A100 Tower Bridge Road and A1203 East Smithfield junction on the north side.
There are two diversion routes in place,
depending on the direction of your travel:
Northbound: your journey will involve crossing over London Bridge
from Borough High Street to Monument and east onto East Cheap Street or
Fenchurch Street.
Southbound: your journey will involve crossing over Southwark Bridge
from Upper Thames Street, to Southwark Bridge Road/Marshalsea Road and
onto Great Dover Street.
Tower Bridge is currently on the boundary route
for the Congestion Charging zone - vehicles crossing Tower Bridge do not incur the
Congestion Charge. Clear 'charge free' signs will be in place to guide
motorists through the diversions. Follow the signs and head in the correct
direction to avoid incurring the Congestion Charge. Deviating from the signed
route during charging hours (Monday-Friday 07:00-18:00) without paying the
daily charge may incur a significant penalty. For more information visit Congestion Charge.
Businesses & Freight: If
you make or receive deliveries around Tower Bridge you should talk to your
customers and suppliers now to consider if there are changes you need to make
to your deliveries or collections. You may want to consider:
Changing the
times of your deliveries to avoid congestion
Using alternative
routes that avoid the area to make your deliveries

deliveries during major events in London on the Deliveries in London.
Taxis & minicabs: The
taxi ranks at London Bridge Station, St Thomas' Street and Bermondsey Street
will operate as normal.
Drivers should follow the signed diversion routes over London Bridge
(northbound) and Southwark Bridge (southbound).
Coaches: Coaches are advised to follow the diversion route and
allow more time for their journeys. Find more information for coach drivers and about coach services.
Dial-a-Ride: Dial-a-ride will operate their usual service and will
make alternative travel arrangements for passengers in the affected areas if
necessary. For up to date information on accessibility on the capital's
transport network follow @TfLAccess on

Consultation about activities for children and young people in Southwark
Overview
We would like you to help us set the priorities for spending on services and activity for children and young people to make sure that the money we spend goes towards the things children and young people want and need.
Background
Southwark Council offers a range of activities for children and young people*, including adventure playgrounds, football coaching, pool and table tennis, art sessions, and day trips, many of which are free. Some of these are currently run by council staff and others by voluntary sector organisations. Like most council services, the money we have to run these activities has been reduced as a result of government funding cuts, but we do still have a significant budget to spend in this area.
*Please note, services for children under five are funded separately and are not part of this consultation.
Future Activities
We want to make sure we are spending this money in the best possible way, to benefit the greatest number of people. Before we make any decisions on how we use this money we want to find out what you think.
So we would appreciate it please if you could go to the following link and complete the survey and let us know what matters to you.
This consultation runs to the 13 Sep 2016 Feedback expected 1 December 2016

the training centres capacity by 50%, allowing Construction Youth Trust to
house more students. This programme also enabled the students to gain job
opportunities from various industry trades.
