Voting in person? Don't forget your photo ID!
It is now a legal requirement that you will need to show an accepted form of photo ID before being given your ballot paper to vote at a polling station. Photo ID is not required for postal voting.
You can find out more on our Voter ID website, including what photo ID is acceptable

Find your polling station
Local polling stations are open until 10pm. Your poll card will tell you where that is, or you can use our polling station finder. If you have a postal vote that you haven’t posted by election day, you can hand this into a polling station before the close of poll at 10pm.

Postal votes
Handing in postal votes at the Civic Centre or polling station?
There are now limits to how many postal votes you can hand in, your own, plus an additional five. If you are a political party or campaigner, you can now only hand in postal votes for your family members or for people you provide care for.
You will also need to complete a postal vote return form.

How does the election count work?
Once polling stations close at 10pm, presiding officers from each polling station take their ballot box to the count hall at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre for the verification and count. Verification ensures the number of ballot papers in each box matches the number of ballot papers recorded as being issued at each polling station.
Once the verification process is complete, the count begins. Once all the votes have been counted, the returning officer will announce the elected Member of Parliament from both local constituencies. Results will be announced as they happen on our X/Twitter feed and Facebook.
Results for the Kursaal ward local council by-election will be announced after that count has finished on Friday afternoon.
