A new online portal for referrals for children and young people’s autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) services in mid and south Essex is launching soon.
The portal, called My Care Bridge, is simple to use and secure. It has been developed with families and healthcare professionals.
Referrals will be accepted via the portal from educational settings, GPs and health visitors. After a referral is made, the family, child or young person will receive a login. They can use the portal to:
- Track their referral
- Provide information for their referral
- Access a library of support information available locally.
The portal will be available later in May for new referrals. It has been developed by the Mid and South Essex Community Collaborative, a partnership between Essex Partnership University Trust, North East London Foundation Trust and Provide Community Interest Company.

Intrepid Ventures SEND activity camps run on Saturdays from 9.00am to 1pm and offer a variety of activities including bushcraft, arts and crafts, and traditional and modern sports.
They are a hub of activity and draw on skills that are not always a priority for development in school. Activities are thought provoking, enjoyable and educational.
Children and parents often comment on the confidence gained from attending holiday camps. As well as character building it encourages independence, self belief, and the ability to socialise alongside differing age and friendship groups.

The Holiday Activity and Food programme (HAF) is a free and exciting holiday programme for children and young people aged 5 to 16 who get benefits related free school meals.
We had a successful Easter programme that ran from 2 to 12 April. 1075 children booked onto the HAF programme, 161 of these children were from our secondary cohort and 172 pupils with SEN accessed a free place. All children and young people benefited from a high-quality and fun experience!
A parent has shared her experience: “My child’s additional needs bring a lot of barriers to her life, being able to have support to enable her to attend these groups means she's given the opportunity to socialise and be with other children which helps to bridge the gap her disabilities can put in place. In the past dropping off my son to clubs and not being able to drop my daughter off as well has been hard to explain to both children as neither understands why she isn't always welcome; to be able to drop off both to the same club was so nice not just for me but for the children to be able to go in together too.
We very much look forward to attending SECAT HAF sessions in the future as the staff were genuinely amazing. Both my children came out having had a wonderful time.“
We will be delivering our next HAF programme for 16 days in the summer holidays from 29 July to 22 August 2024 Monday to Thursday. We want to reach as many eligible children as possible. Contact your school if you are unsure if you are eligible.
You can contact the HAF team by emailing HAF@southend.gov.uk

Come along to a free webinar with Elaine Taylor-Brown, project lead of the A Better Start Southend (ABSS) project Early Maths Matters programme, to dip your toe in to the fascinating world of early maths.

Organised by: ABSS and Early Maths Matters
