Welcome to our bi monthly update on community learning opportunities in the city. We'll keep you informed of training courses for adults, plus learning and skills development opportunities which may be of interest to you.

FLE learners

FLE fishing and courses news

FLE learners are completing their Level 1 Fishery Management course this month. Students have learnt about predation, stock ratios, fish biology, aquatic life, the water cycle and much more.

The next Fishery Management Course starts on Wednesday 15 April and will run for 12 weeks. Please call 07595 024363 for more information.

We also have several Fishing For Skills courses planned, combining fishing and personal development and allowing learners time to reflect while learning new life skills. 2015 Amazing People Awards for Excellence

Solent EBP, in partnership with Southampton and Hampshire's local authorities and community/business sponsors, is hosting the 2015 Amazing People Awards for Excellence.
 
The awards evening is a celebration of the commitment that businesses, schools, colleges and other partners invest in developing innovative programmes that support young peoples’ preparation for adult life and work, and the remarkable achievements of the young people themselves.

There is also an award category for those overcoming personal barriers to learning, gaining new skills and qualifications.  Winners and runners up will be announced on the evening
 
Individuals and organisations can submit nominations by the closing date of Friday 1 May 2015.  Please download the application form and email it to gill.rutherford@solent-ebp.co.uk.  More information about the awards is available here.


Access to Higher Education Diploma

This one-year Access to Higher Education Diploma is designed for learners who wish to go to university but do not have the necessary entry requirements. Funding is available for most learners.  

Itchen College offers the diploma in:

  • Education Professions
  • Nursing and Midwifery
  • Health and Social Care Professions
  • Social Science.

2015 Adult Learners Week

Look out for the 2015 Adult Learners Week which will run from 13 to 19 June, as part of the Festival of Learning in May and June. Many local learning organisations will be offering free events and taster sessions for you and your family to get involved in learning activities of all kinds. Keep an eye out in the local press and social media for more details or click here to find out what is happening near you.

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

Tuesday evenings: 21, 28 Apr, 5, 12 May (plus home study), 2, 9, 16 Jun / 6-9pm / £380

Introduction to Teaching Adults

TWICS

Learn how to run workshops or skill share sessions

Wednesdays / 10 & 24 June / 9.30am-2.30pm / Swaythling

TWICS (Training for Work in Communities) is running a short course for people who run workshops or skill share sessions, or who might like to in the future. It will cover the planning and running sessions with lots of practical ideas and activities, and tips on how different people learn.
