Clock Tower Tours, Titanic Workshops and Titanic Museum Tours!

Join us for Costumed Titanic Tours and Titanic Family Workshops and Clock Tower tours, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April. Nearly 111 years since Titanic set sail from Southampton, learn about the men and women who worked on the worlds most famous ship and discover more about what happened leading up to the disaster, and its effects on Southampton and the world.

Art talks coming up over the weekend and next week

Peter Jones

Telling Tales: An introduction to narrative art with Peter Jones | 25 March | 2pm | Southampton City Art Gallery | £6

This talk will look at narrative paintings by different artists from the past to the present, including these featured in our current exhibition Telling Tales, featuring masterpieces of the genre from the collections of both Southampton and Russell Cotes. Despite the objections to narrative painting and the rise of abstract art, this talk will consider the enduring appeal of narrative art.

Lost objects

Found Cities Lost Objects: Artist Hannah Starkey, in Conversation with co-curator Beth Hughes | 27 March | 6pm | Southampton City Art Gallery | £6

Beth Hughes (co-curator of Found Cities, Lost Objects) will be in conversation with artist Hannah Starkey (whose work is on display as part of the exhibition) to discuss aspects of how the built environment impacts on women’s experiences of the city; addressing themes ranging from safety and navigation to concepts of belonging and power. Explore the exhibition in the gallery from 5.30pm then join us in the lecture theatre from 6pm – 7pm.

Hannah Starkey is a photographer who has worked in both fine art and commercial photography. During the late 1990s she began to create large-scale works of a staged cinematic character, often featuring isolated women in anonymous interiors or urban environments.

Join us for a FREE family community arts day exploring animals in our collection and the natural world. Drop in 10am–3pm and enjoy:

Exploring Mixed Media and Acrylics with Becks Porter: Still Life | 13 May | 11am | Southampton City Art Gallery | £37

Join artist Becks Porter for a day of experimenting and exploring to create a number of mixed media compositions using collage and acrylic paint. Working from life and with expert advice on hand, you will build up layers of colour, texture and pattern with great results.


The Saturday Art Club for Adults with Sarah L Goy | Starting 27 May | 11am | Southampton City Art Gallery | £18 or £48 for all three dates

Take time out for yourself, switch your phone off and slow down at this creative group for grown-ups. Each month, artist and teacher Sarah L Goy will guide you to discover different media in a relaxing and exploratory way. All are welcome and all materials are provided. The focus of these sessions is rest, relaxation, and permission to experiment!
