Listen on Spotify

Watch on YouTube

August's episode is a Jobs Week Special - we'll be talking about what to expect from the week and we also meet the Prince's Trust who tell us about their programmes in Southampton and how they're linking in with our Youth Hub. As well as that, we discuss the Kickstart Scheme and how it can support young people to find work.

Kickstart your career

Kickstart

The Kickstart Scheme is helping employers create thousands of government-funded jobs for young people aged 16-24 years old on Universal Credit who need additional work experience to improve their chances of getting into work.

The job will last for 6 months and while you are on it you will get paid at least 25 hours a week at the national minimum wage or national living wage depending on how old you are.

The employer will support you to improve your chances of getting a permanent job – this support would be tailored to you and might include:

  • Developing your skills in the workplace
  • Career advice
  • Help with CV writing and preparing for interviews

There are thousands of Kickstart Scheme jobs available right now. Visit the JobHelp website for more information and talk to your Work Coach to apply to Kickstart Scheme jobs.

Southampton City Council Job Vacancies

SCC

Senior Communications Officer

We are looking for an experienced communications professional to lead Communications for our Children’s Services team.

You will be responsible for writing and implementing communications plans for a range of different teams within the wider Children’s Service division. From delivering recruitment campaigns for foster carers and social workers, to shaping how we engage with children and young people as we work to become a child friendly city as recognised by UNICEF.

Grounds Operative - Outdoor Rec

We have a great opportunity for experienced grounds staff to join a dedicated team that maintain Southampton Golf Course. Southampton City Council took back the running of the course on 1 April 2021 and we re-opened to the public on 30 April 2021. We have made a lot of improvements to the greens as well as undertaking essential works which has all been very well received, but there is much more to achieve!

The successful candidate will hold a relevant professional qualification in grounds maintenance. E.g. Grounds Management Association (GMA) level 2 Technical Certificate in Turf Surface, or equivalent, and relevant Certificates and/or proofs of technical competence and experience to undertake the job.

Southampton Test and Trace Call Handler

Would you like the opportunity to contribute directly to the Council's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to use your skills to do something really worthwhile? Southampton City Council are looking for exceptional individuals to support our local Test and Trace service.

You will be required to initiate contact with people who have been identified as testing positive for COVID-19 through phone calls, texts, email, and other communication platforms as necessary. You will be responsible for providing COVID-19 cases with approved self-isolation advice or guidance, and assist in identifying the ‘close contacts’ of the person who has tested positive for COVID-19 by taking cases through a risk assessment. You will also assess the COVID-19 case’s ability to safely and effectively quarantine at home, identify barriers, put in place necessary interventions, and facilitate appropriate referrals.

Experienced Social Worker

Are you committed to improving the life chances and outcomes for children?

Are you enthusiastic and self-motivated about working in this challenging, stimulating and important area of statutory social work?

Following the expansion of the JIGSAW team, we have exciting opportunities for two experienced Social Workers with at least two years’ existing Statutory Children’s Social Care Safeguarding, Protection and Court experience to join the JIGSAW Team. The JIGSAW team is a multi-agency service funded by Southampton City Council Children’s Services and CCG. They provide a service to children, young people and their carer/parents with learning disabilities and enduring complex health needs including autism.
