This week the Prime Minister announced a four-step plan to ease lockdown in England.

The first changes will be taking place Monday 8 of March as the government sets out its plan for the return of all pupils to schools and colleges.

The dates could change depending on the picture from COVID-19 data at the time.

Right now it remains vital that we stick with it Southampton. Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.

Local COVID-19 data update

COVID data 26 Feb

The number of cases of COVID-19 in Southampton has remained relatively static this week, and the rate of infection remains high, though the overall trend for the past few weeks has been a decrease. Admissions to our University Hospital Southampton ICU remain higher than average.

On Monday, the government set out a roadmap to reopen things gradually. But it’s important to remember that for now we need to keep following guidance while vaccines are rolled out at speed.

Stick with it Southampton. Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.

If you have symptoms, get tested. If you test positive or are contacted by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app, you must self-isolate. If you are in work, on a low income and need to self-isolate and can't work from home, you may be eligible to apply for a self-isolation payment. Find out more here

COVID-19 vaccines for unpaid and family carers

Vaccine for carers

Do you know someone who is an unpaid or family carer? Unpaid and family carers aged 16+ are on one of the priority lists for an early COVID-19 vaccination and vaccines for this group have already begun.

Many unpaid or family carers do not recognise their caring role. Please encourage any family members, neighbours or colleagues you think might have caring responsibilities to register with Carers in Southampton as an unpaid or family carer to be in line to receive the vaccine, even if they are already registered with Carers in Southampton. They must be registered with a Southampton GP Practice.

They will need to tell Carers in Southampton they are a carer by completing a form here: www.carersinsouthampton.co.uk/covid19vaccine or by calling Freephone 0800 776 5217 (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm) but please be aware that the phone lines are extremely busy.

It is also possible for people in receipt of a carers allowance to go online and book their vaccination at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/, or call 119.

Southampton care home praised by CQC on its COVID-19 safety measures

Holcroft Care Home

Holcroft House Residential Care Home in Thornhill, managed by Southampton City Council, has received a glowing inspection report from the English health and social care regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as part of their response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The inspection was carried out in February and inspectors were reassured that Holcroft House residential care home is implementing good practices around COVID-19. The CQC were looking at the preparedness of the care home in relation to infection prevention and control measures.

The inspectors noted that Holcroft House had effective and robust procedures in place to avoid risks posed by infection, particularly regarding COVID-19. This included procedures to ensure those who were coming to live at the home were supported to do so safely, accessing testing for care home residents and employees, and ensuring all shielding and social distancing rules were followed. The CQC praised the care home for promoting safety throughout the layout and hygiene practices of the premises.

Premises Licence revoked following breach of Coronavirus regulations

stay at home

The premises licence for the Bitterne Park Hotel in Cobden Road has been revoked following a breach of the Coronavirus regulations.

The evidence clearly showed that an unlawful pre-arranged party was taking place on the night in question, with over 30 attendees who were not observing social distancing or wearing masks and had been consuming excess amounts of alcohol without food being served.

At this time Southampton was in Tier 2 of the regulations which meant that licensed premises could only operate as a restaurant and alcohol was ancillary to any food sales. There was no household mixing allowed and face masks had to be worn other than when seated. This included members of staff serving customers.

After considering all the evidence and options before it the committee determined to revoke the licence.
