Local weekly data

The infection rate of COVID-19 in Southampton continues to fall. This is good news, but the ICU at Southampton General Hospital is still under intense pressure. We need the infection rate to continue to fall as the vaccine rollout continues at pace.

That means we have to stick with it Southampton. Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives. You must self-isolate when you have symptoms, test positive or if you are contacted by the NHS COVID-19 app or NHS Test and Trace. This is essential to keep these numbers down and protect our family and residents.

Forum Update

It was great to welcome back some familiar faces as well as some new ones at this weeks forum. We spoke about how we are supporting others and many of us are doing a great job at being a listening ear and supporting with food deliveries. Please remember though to look after yourselves. Every Mind Matters have some useful information on how to look after your mental health.

This week we asked you what you'd like to hear as part of Sabina's update and you didn't disappoint in letting us know. You asked to hear more about airborne transmission, ventilation and the vaccine. You can see Sabina's update here.

We have been asked about the NHS Covid App so Sabina also covered this in her update.

When it came to questions this week you had some great ones:

  • How well is the local Test and Trace service working?
  • How well is the NHS Covid App working?
  • How effective is the vaccine?

We will update you on these questions during next weeks forum and include the answers in next weeks Friday bulletin.

Top Topic - Vaccines

As we know, vaccines are super important which is why we are making it our top topic again this week. You are able to keep up to date with daily vaccination data here. You can find out more information about the Vaccine and FAQs here.

Aged 70 or over? Clinically vulnerable?

You can now book your COVID-19 vaccination even if you haven’t received a letter from the NHS.

If you are aged 70 or over, or you are clinically vulnerable, you can now book your COVID-19 vaccination through the NHS website even if you haven’t yet received a letter. When booking your appointment, you can choose a time slot and location that suits you.

You must book your appointment before you go to a vaccination centre. We are aware of other scam messages circulating – please ignore them – the NHS will never ask you for money or your bank details for your vaccination – it is free.

If you are unable to book online you can call 119 free of charge, anytime between 7am and 11pm seven days a week. If a suitable and convenient slot is not available, you can call your GP practice.

How will I get my vaccine?

The order in which people will be offered the vaccine is based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI)

When it's your turn, you'll be contacted by letter, text or email with information on how to book your appointment.

COVID-19 Vaccines for Unpaid and Family Carers

Do you know someone who is an unpaid or family carer? Unpaid and family carers aged 18+ are on one of the priority lists for an early COVID-19 vaccination.

Many unpaid or family carers do not recognise their caring role. Please encourage any family members, neighbours or colleagues you think might have caring responsibilities to register with Carers in Southampton as an unpaid or family carer to be in line to receive the vaccine. They must be registered with a Southampton GP Practice.

They will need to tell Carers in Southampton by calling 0870 315 6547 (Lines are open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm). More information can be found on the Carers in Southampton webpage.
