Southampton City Council approves bold new budget and investment plans
Members of Southampton City Council voted at February’s meeting of full council to approve plans to invest almost £1bn by 2025 to unleash the city’s potential and meet the needs of residents. Cllr Christopher Hammond, Leader of the Council, explains in this short video. The budget is split into two distinct areas:
PEOPLE - Delivering vital every day services
The new budget sets out how we plan to finance the hundreds of services we deliver every day for the people of the city. This includes the more visible services such as collecting bins and fixing potholes as well as looking after the most vulnerable children and adults in our communities. The core part of your council tax bill will not increase for the financial year 2020/21.
PLACE - Capital investments for the future
The budget proposals include an exciting package of investments for the future of the city. Members have approved a net addition of £408m to the capital programme to 2024/25 which would total £981m. Visit our website to read the full story.

Trial of timed road closure comes into effect at St Mary’s C of E Primary School
St Mary’s C of E Primary School has partnered with My Journey, our sustainable travel brand, Sustrans and our Highways Partner Balfour Beatty Living Places to implement a trial, timed closure outside the school at drop off and pick up times.
The closure, which came into effect on 24 February, will create a safer, healthier environment around the school and will encourage more families to walk, cycle or scoot on the school run. This is the second part-time closure of its kind, following the success of a similar closure outside St John’s Primary and Nursery in the city centre. For the full story, visit the My Journey website.

Urgent appeal from Adopt South
There are nine children in our region who have been waiting for too long for a forever home. Some of the children have a disability, are sibling groups of brothers and sisters, and there are some with mixed race heritage.
Adopt South, is the regional adoption agency for the local authorities of Southampton, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. They are urgently reaching out to our communities to find loving and happy homes for children who can’t live with their birth parents for a variety of complex reasons.
If you could be a nurturing parent who can love and care for a child, like William or Sam, then please visit Adopt South to hear more about their stories.
