Every Mind Matters

Did you see it?

Every Mind Matters is a new app from the NHS designed to help people look after their mental health. It was launched nationally on 7th October to help people take simple steps to look after their mental health, improve their mental wellbeing and support others. Follow on #everymindmatters #mentalhealth

Watch the short film on YouTube. Download the Every Mind Matters App. Download resources for your Health & Wellbeing Noticeboards and/or to promote positive mental health in your organisation

Make it OK to talk about not feeling OK in your organisation - take the Time to Change Pledge. We'll be talking about this as part of Everything Stops for Tea on 21st November (see above).

You can also promote more kindness, happiness and wellbeing through Action for Happiness resources (see the Calendar below).

every life matters

every Life Matters cards

Supporting people experiencing suicidal thoughts

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust have launched a Life Cards’ project which aims to help and support people with suicidal thoughts. The ‘Life Cards’ signpost people to key organisations that offer advice, help and support. They also link to free resources and suicide prevention guidance to equip people with the skills and confidence that could help save someone’s life.

Life Cards can be picked up at reception desks in every main NHS Hospital or you can order them online. Also, there's some guidance on the Wellbeing@Work webpages  on being aware and sensitive to a risk of suicide when involved in administering disciplinary procedures.

Movember - helping men to take action on protecting their health

Stock - repairs - workmen

Globally, men die on average 6 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.

With an introduction from Stephen Fry, Movember shines a light to increase awareness of the health risks men need to know about (prostate/testicular cancer and mental health and suicide risks) and stop men dying too young.

Resources and ideas for individuals and teams under the Take Part tab - one involves growing facial hair...

World Diabetes Day is on 14 November - over 50% of Type 2 Diabetes is preventable according to the charity World Diabetes Day, and there's an online self-check test to assess personal risk.

Getting together - Men in Sheds promotes men getting together in safe and congenial places to meet and talk, share banter and skills and generally increase enjoyment in life and reduce isolation.

New Things November

New Things November

Being open, curious and engaging with the world is fun and keeps us growing as people.

November's Action for Happiness Calendar gives lots of ideas to try - this could be a personal focus or a fun team activity.

Taken from the Calendar:

  •   2nd - Broaden your perspective: read a different paper, magazine or site
  •    8th - Connect with someone from a different generation
  • 22nd - Choose to do something out of your usual comfort zone
  • 29th - Use one of your strengths in a new or creative way

Print the calendar and pin on Wellbeing Noticeboards or fridges to encourage self-care conversations. Or turn trying new things into a team activity - for example: learning new ways of managing workload, having more fun at work, sharing computer tips, or reaching out to other teams in your organisation.
