Wellbeing@Work Business Event
Everything stops for tea...
Thursday 21 November: 3-5pm + networking time
Please join Wellbeing@Work and colleagues from local organisations for a cup of tea and to think and talk about how to support staff to flourish and workplaces to thrive. Information, presentations and lively conversations that support you to support positive mental health in your place of work.
Every Mind Matters is a new app from the NHS designed to help people look after their mental health. It was launched nationally on 7th October to help people take simple steps to look after their mental health, improve their mental wellbeing and support others. Follow on #everymindmatters#mentalhealth
Make it OK to talk about not feeling OK in your organisation - take the Time to Change Pledge. We'll be talking about this as part of Everything Stops for Tea on 21st November (see above).
You can also promote more kindness, happiness and wellbeing through Action for Happiness resources (see the Calendar below).
every Life Matters cards
Supporting people experiencing suicidal thoughts
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust have launched a ‘Life Cards’ project which aims to help and support people with suicidal thoughts. The ‘Life Cards’ signpost people to key organisations that offer advice, help and support. They also link to free resources and suicide prevention guidance to equip people with the skills and confidence that could help save someone’s life.
Life Cards can be picked up at reception desks in every main NHS Hospital or you can order them online. Also, there's some guidance on the Wellbeing@Work webpages on being aware and sensitive to a risk of suicide when involved in administering disciplinary procedures.
Movember - helping men to take action on protecting their health
Globally, men die on average 6 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.
With an introduction from Stephen Fry, Movember shines a light to increase awareness of the health risks men need to know about (prostate/testicular cancer and mental health and suicide risks) and stop men dying too young.
Resources and ideas for individuals and teams under the Take Part tab - one involves growing facial hair...
Getting together - Men in Sheds promotes men getting together in safe and congenial places to meet and talk, share banter and skills and generally increase enjoyment in life and reduce isolation.
The GREAT behaviours which mirror the 5 Ways to Wellbeing (scroll down for the link) and the DREAM inner resources lead us into experiencing a calmer, happier life.
There's lots of downloadable information, posters and an action pack on their website to use alone, with family and friends, or maybe as a whole team at work. If you do explore this please do let us know what difference it makes to your team...

The closing date for Workplace Grants applications to support active travel is November 15.
Encouraging staff to be physically active in their journey (or part journey) to and from work makes sense for their health, wellbeing and energy as well as for the organisation. Grants (and other support) is available from My Journey to help businesses do this.
Wellbeing@Work is here to support you
The Wellbeing@Work web pages contains a help yourself toolkit of employer resources including information to 'print & pin' on your Health & Wellbeing Noticeboard and health and wellbeing signposting to support your staff.
We're available to help you think/talk through what you could do to promote, encourage and support health & wellbeing in your place of work.
