Community Updates

1. Barnardo's - Solihull | Understanding & Addressing Collective & Community Trauma

This module delivered by Barnardo's is for professionals/community members who are looking to develop their understanding of collective and community trauma. This trauma can happen when a shared, deeply distressing experience affects an entire group of people. This experience can lead to lasting psychological and social impacts on individuals and communities as a whole.

📅Thursday 5 March, 10am-12pm, Online event

As leaders, managers, frontline professionals and community members, we can each play a part in helping our communities heal, grow, and build a hopeful future. Understanding this type of trauma is the first step towards providing a trauma informed response at a community level.

This engaging and interactive workshop is designed for both professionals (e.g., social workers, police, youth workers, faith leads, educators and healthcare providers) and community members who want to learn how to support their communities in times of crisis.

2. Nearly £400,000 of community funding now available

Groups in Solihull can now bid for a share of nearly £400,000 to improve their local neighbourhoods.

This funding comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) which this year is available for community groups in five wards (Elmdon, Knowle, Shirley East, Shirley South and St Alphege).

The money is collected from new developments as part of the normal planning process. It is intended to support community projects in areas where development has taken place.

The CIL money collected has been added to any unallocated funds from previous years.

The funds are either distributed directly to 13 parish and town councils in the borough or placed into ‘ward pots’ (in areas without a parish council).

The CIL fund is now open to ‘bids’ from local communities in the five wards, which must be submitted by Friday 22 May 2026.

To be considered, groups and organisations must be formally constituted; have a bank account with two unrelated signatories; at least two unrelated management committee members if they are an unincorporated organisation or a voluntary group and show good financial management procedures, including records of income and expenditure.

For more information visit the Neighbourhood Proportion - Solihull Council.

If you are interested, please contact the CIL team via cil@solihull.gov.uk or call on 0121 704 8008.
