Shropshire's Inclusive Practice Conference

The inaugural Shropshire Inclusive Practice Conference was held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Friday 11th July and showcased strategies and initiatives to support children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The event featured expert speakers and diverse workshops aimed at enhancing inclusive education practices.

Gary Aubin (leader with Whole Education and sits on the Government's Curriculum and Assessment Review panel) delivered the keynote speech, emphasising a whole-school approach to SEND, highlighting the importance of adaptive teaching and high quality, inclusive mainstream practice.

There were a wide variety of workshops on SEND strategies; sessions included curriculum design, language development, neurodivergent support during transitions, sensory environment adaptations, emotional based school avoidance, SEND identification, use of assistive technology, research into inclusive practice and working with parent carers.

Attendees overwhelmingly found the presentations informative and beneficial for their practice, with everyone who provided feedback supporting future similar events. Shropshire Council are committed to further developing their CPD offer for all aspects of SEND and Inclusion and the Learning and Skills teams are delighted that the conference was so well received…see you all next year!
