The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, who will be performing at the Festival
The multi award winning Ginger & Spice Festival has been awarded a grant from the UK Government through the Vibrant Shropshire: a Cultural Compact Grant scheme as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Ginger and Spice Festival, which is now in its eight year, is an annual celebration which takes place during British Food Fortnight, championing and celebrating the unique culinary heritage and historical links of gingerbread to the town of Market Drayton.
The festival aims to reconnect the community of Market Drayton to their unique culinary heritage through an eclectic mix of fun and educational festival fringe events celebrating the cultural assets and heritage of the town. One of the many highlights will be performances by Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band. There will be two electrifying sets that showcase the diverse repertoire and unrivalled talent of the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band from India. From the powerful rhythms of trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and sousaphone, to the vibrant beats of clarinet, side, bass, and dhol drums, their music will transport you to the heart of Rajasthan’s enchanting cultural landscape.
There will also be the opportunity to join the Jaipur Kitchen workshop where you can learn to make traditional Indian breads and discover how different cultures use raw ingredients.
Some of the youth who participated in earlier workshops will join the performances with the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band.
The Ginger & Spice Festival has received £4,020.00 from the UK Government through the Vibrant Shropshire Grant Scheme, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for a series of healthy cookery and interactive musical workshops for young people, multicultural performances and workshops and an artistic street performance for the entire community. The events will take place at the Ginger & Spice Festival on Saturday 28th September 2024 in Market Drayton, North Shropshire between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
Festival director Julia Roberts, said:
“We are extremely grateful to have been awarded a grant from the UK Government through the Vibrant Shropshire: a Cultural Compact Scheme to fund healthy cookery and interactive musical workshops for young people, and a street performance for the entire community at this year’s festival. This not-for-profit festival aims to unite the entire local community, allowing them to discover, explore, and reconnect with their unique cultural and culinary heritage. The addition of this project will extend cultural activities to a wider Shropshire audience and allowing more young people, especially those from isolated and disadvantaged backgrounds to participate, free of charge. We are extremely proud to have been awarded this grant and very excited to be delivering these activities for the community this year.”
The festival has also been awarded support from the Market Drayton Town Council Community support scheme to help with some of the running costs for health and safety provisions associated with the festival.
