CPRE Shropshire, the countryside charity, is in the third year of its Hedgerow Project and aims to plant 6km+ of new, native hedges in the Shropshire countryside this winter. When mature, hedges are fantastic for nature, providing shelter and food and a wildlife corridor across our landscape.
We are now seeking volunteers to help us get these hedges in the ground!
Could your business help by providing ‘away days’ or volunteer leave for your staff? Hedge planting is a great form of team building, including light physical exercise in the open air in the countryside. There is a great sense of achievement at the end of the session with new skills learned, new friendships forged and new much-needed habitat created for nature. Cake is normally involved too!
Our planting days are 10am to around 1 or 2pm. Tools are provided and a volunteer lead is always on hand to help if people have not planted trees before.
A range of planting sites and dates can be found on our website (see below) or by contacting Sarah Jameson on admin@cpreshropshire.org.uk

Marches Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIPs) is a Department of Education project to understand the training needs, shortages, and emerging patterns across the Marches (Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin). Led by Shropshire Chamber, with assistance from Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber.
The project is England wide. In Stage 1 (2022-2023) we interviewed 463 employers across the Marches, their voices have made change happen. From that intelligence there is now increased Government funding for the Marches area to help alleviate skills shortages through greater training provision. YOUR VOICE will help this change continue and grow.

Climate change is a global issue affecting us all, and we all have a part to play. As an agricultural and food producing region, Shropshire is particularly susceptible to the damaging effects of climate change.
With Shropshire Council declaring a climate emergency and aiming to be net zero by 2030, we must act now.
However, for SME’s it can be difficult to know where to begin. Shropshire Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Shropshire Council Together with the Carbon Trust have put together ten easy steps to help SME’s on their journey to net-zero.
