Thank you for those of you who have responded to our call to be the face of Direct Payments for an upcoming media push across Shropshire. We look forward to seeing and hearing from you soon. Just like spring when the ground is bare, lots of direct payment news items are like bulbs waiting for warmer weather. Things to look out for in the following weeks and months are:

Personal Assistant (PA) recruitment website
Support to use the PA recruitment website for those who may need some help to use it
Free online training for PAs from Careskills Academy, who are endorsed by Skills for Care and offer over 80 online courses

Direct Payment rate increases

From the 1^st April 2022 Shropshire are increasing the personal assistant hourly rate. We will provide full information in a letter to follow, until then no action is required.

Employed PAs will earn a standard hourly rate of £10.20 and £11.94 for self-employed PAs.

If you use an agency or day centre support, please double check whether they are putting up their hourly rates in April. Please let your social work team know if this is the case.

Improving Direct Payments Oversight

Shropshire has worked with TLAP (Think Local, Act Personal), to look at ways to reduce bureaucracy around direct payments to make them easier to use. TLAP have produced this graphic and a document to help councils to look at their processes. We plan to look together at the suggestions to see what we can improve in Shropshire later this year, including reviewing the reconciliation letters.
