Household batteries contain heavy metals including lead, mercury, cadmium, zinc, manganese and lithium.
The heavy metals found in batteries can be reused, however millions of batteries end up in landfill where they go unused and cause damage to the environment.
Dig out your old household batteries and bring them back to be recycled. You can take these to your nearest participating store more information here. You can also recycle batteries at home. Just put them in a clear bag (like a sandwich bag) at the side of your recycling box on your next recycling day.
