Screen Dance in Birmingham @ Flatpack Festival 2020
Flatpack has launched it’s first screen dance film competition! I joined the team in early February to co-curate the programme and screen up to 80 films from across the globe.
The competition is now free to watch online, as part of Flatpack’s 2020 Home Entertainment Edition from 8th - 17th May.

You can have your say by casting a vote for the audience awards, alongside our judges Karen Wood and Ravi Deepres.
If you make films, are a dancer or choreographer, then this is for you. Winners will be unveiled during an Awards Night on 16th May at 8pm.

Share a Mindful Moment with Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery
Shropshire Museums have launched a ‘mindful museums’ project and want you to take part. The museums team have produced a series of short videos offering listeners a mindful exploration of artworks and objects held in the collection of Shropshire Museums. The videos are accompanied by a restful audio track by artist and educator Lindsey Kennedy, which encourages listeners to ‘look, to breathe and to be curious’.
The first video of the series features a beautiful blue and white Caughley china tea pot. A selection of activity sheets to support each video have been produced to help viewers to get started with their own creative projects. The videos and activity sheets are available via the museum’s website and social media channels.
The museums team are calling on artists, makers, creative writers, gardeners, families and tea enthusiasts to enjoy a relaxing moment studying the teapot and to share their creative response using the hashtag #mindfulmuseums #museumfromhome and tagging in @shrewsburymuseum @shrewsmuseum

Participants in the Arts Council ‘Arts Award’ scheme run by Shropshire Libraries can also access the videos and activity sheets to help them complete their award.

Grants for Film, TV & Cinema Workers with Ideas to Help Peers During COVID-19 Crisis
As part of the Film and TV Charity’s coronavirus response to help support the industry’s mental health and wellbeing during this time, it has designed the Community Grants scheme to aid those who are volunteering their time to support their peers in the film and TV workforce. Specifically, the scheme will contribute to administrative costs and ‘out of pocket’ expenses incurred in delivering this work at this time.
Grants will usually be around £150-£250 but can be up to a maximum of £1,000 for people organising a series of events or with additional costs to support access and inclusion.
Applications will close on Monday 1 June 2020 (18:00 BST).
COVID-19 Relief Funding for Visual Artists in England & Northern Ireland
The Freelands Foundation Emergency Fund has been set up to help artists and freelance creative practitioners in the visual arts sector, living in England and Northern Ireland, who are in urgent need of financial support because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.
This is short‑term emergency funding to enable applicants to survive financially. The scheme will help individuals to meet their most urgent financial needs while they explore other ways of sustaining themselves.
The £1.5 million fund provides grants of £1,500 to £2,500 per person, assessed by need, with £1 million going to those living in England and £500,000 to those in Northern Ireland.
The funder encourages applications from artists and arts professionals working in all visual arts disciplines. Those on multiple short-term PAYE contracts are also eligible.
The deadline for applications is Thursday 18 June 2020 (14:00 BST).

Funding for Organisations Supporting Children at Risk of Youth Violence
The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is providing the funding with the aim reaching and helping vulnerable children (aged 10-14) who are at risk of being drawn into crime and violence and who, as a result of coronavirus/COVID-19 and social distancing measures, may have lost the support they rely on.
Grants are intended to fund and evaluate work that can be delivered while adhering to UK government coronavirus/COVID-19 social distancing and stay-at-home guidelines, to establish what activities are effective in reaching and engaging vulnerable young people.
Applications are accepted from any legally constituted organisation delivering in England and Wales, including charities and social enterprises; for-profit companies; and public sector agencies, such as councils, schools, health, or police forces.
Half of the total funding will be reserved for charities and social enterprises, with grants of a minimum of £25,000 available for activities in the following two key areas:

Creative Commission: Opportunity
Good Things for People to do at Home
|
Qube and Taking Part are seeking Creative Practitioners and Artists to create imaginative, fun and creative activities for people who would normally attend Day Care Services to do at home during lockdown and beyond.
This project will make creative, arts and well-being activities available to over 200 vulnerable and isolated people in Shropshire who until now usually go to a community setting for learning, training, support and companionship. The reasons for this could include a learning or physical disability, seeking support for poor mental health, support for challenging behaviours, living with dementia or having unpaid caring responsibilities.
This is a Shropshire wide approach to support people at home managed by Shropshire County Council’s Adult Social Care service in partnership with Oswestry Community Action (Qube) and Taking Part.
Creative Brief: Call for Expressions of Interest
Deadline: ASAP before the 29thMay 2020. We reserve the right to close the Call before the deadline so would encourage early submission of proposals.
Who: Creative Practitioners / Artists / Designers / Makers / Musicians / Dancers
What: Expressions of Interest are invited from a range of creative practitioners for the creation and production of creative ‘how to’ and ‘have a go’ resources (physical and virtual) for Day Care users and their carers to access at home.
For example: video tasks/lessons (filmed by practitioner), activity sheets, tasks and challenges (both physical and digital resources).
These resources will be safely distributed by the Adult Social Care team through online platforms and physical Happy Boxes that will be delivered directly to the clients.
This is a 3 month pilot project (May-July) aimed at vulnerable adults during and post Covid-19. If successful this project may continue.
