Carers Survey
A reminder that Shropshire’s Health and Well-being Board are seeking the views of carers of any age and anyone associated with unpaid care, to ensure that the services and the support they receive continue to meet their needs.
Following many conversations with carers over the years, the carers consultation which launched in June by the board, is asking carers for their views on the key priorities which carers have said that they want and need both locally and nationally.
The six proposed priorities are:
Carers are listened to, valued and respected
Carers receive timely access to up to date information and advice which promote choice and good decision-making
Carers receive support to enable them to have time for themselves
Carers are supported to remain emotionally, mentally and physically well
Carers are supported in planning for the future
Carers are able to fulfil their educational, training or employment potential.
A carer is someone who provides support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be a parent caring for their child, caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.
The consultation forms part of the Health and Well-being Board’s Carers ‘Exemplar’ work with the Shropshire Family Carers Partnership Board, which includes representatives from carers, statutory services, the voluntary and community sector and health.
For more information and to take part in the survey go to ‘Get involved’ on the Shropshire Council website and search for ‘Draft carers strategy for Shropshire’ or simply click here. The survey should take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete online, depending how much detail you provide.
The closing date for completed surveys is Friday 29th July 2016.
Healthwatch are also interested in your views as a Carer during their July HOT TOPIC. Further details available later in this Newsletter.
New
funding available from The England Illegal Money Lending Team to be used to
benefit local communities.
Stop Loan Sharks Community Funding 2016
The
good news is that for the year 2016-2017 organisations will be able to apply
for up to £5,000 to directly target an area affected by, or believed to
be at risk of illegal money
lending to promote the illegal money lending team and the message that loan
sharks should be avoided at all costs.
Your
project idea will need to target illegal money lending and needs to be delivered
by the 31st March 2017.
If
you are interested in applying, please request an application form, closing
date for applications is September 30th 2016.
The England Illegal Money Lending Team has funding
available for groups that want to raise awareness of the issues of illegal
money lending. The money available has come from the proceeds of crime taken
from convicted illegal money lenders. Illegal Money Lenders more commonly known as
Loan Sharks, lend money without having the correct permissions from the
Financial Conduct Authority. They often give cash loans out without any paper
work and want double the amount back or charge extortionate interest rates.
When you struggle to make repayments they may use violence, threats and
intimidation, to ensure you keep paying them. The aim of this funding is to
give groups the opportunity to raise awareness of the issue, in their community
in a different way. There are some links you might find useful:
