Volunteers

Volunteer days

A very big thank you to everyone who has volunteered at the farm so far this year.  With the help of our volunteers we have made some brilliant changes to the farm and created new areas of interest as well as sprucing up existing features such as the willow maze.

Volunteer days will continue throughout the year on the 2nd Thursday of each month with Rob and Sarah.  The days start at 10am with a cuppa and there are no set requirements for how many hours you donate!  We only ask that you bring your own lunch and suitable clothing for outside tasks.  Tasks tend to be of a gardening or site maintenance nature although if you have a burning desire to muck out I’m sure that can be arranged too!

If you would like to join the next volunteer day please give Sarah a ring and let her know if you wish to attend.  01694 781 307.  Thanks!

Demonstrations

Demonstrations and events

Every day there are different demonstrations going on.

We produce a daily ‘what’s on’ for you to take around with you.

Staff members will be happy to tell you what is on and will involve you wherever they can.

You can also find out more about the events planned for this year on our website.

New arrivals!

Lambs

Lambs are everywhere this time of year and Acton Scott is no exception.  Our Shropshire sheep are experienced mothers and for the most part don’t need any help with lambing.  If you are lucky you might even see one being born, the newest lambs are in the Threshing Barn with the ones we are bottle feeding.

Lambs 2

Every year we adopt a few lambs from a local farm which need bottle feeding.  These are often one of triplets that the mother cannot feed herself.

We bottle feed twice a day at the moment 11.45am and 3.30pm and we encourage visitors to help with this activity.

Our shop

Shop image

We hope you agree that our new shop is looking lovely.  We are so pleased with the new location and the wide range of exclusive and local products we are stocking.  We have filled the walls of the New Barn with our local painters and photographers works

Claire Allen-Brunn was a firm favourite here last year.  She has added some pictures to her range, particularly the beautiful hare staring at the moon – not hopping mad, we hope!

Artist mug

New for this year Meg Hawkins – her wonderful and colourful illustrations are just so much fun.  Meg is running a Water-colouring workshop for us on the 2nd and 30th May so if you find yourself inspired by her talent then why not give it a go? Meg’s taking her own bookings on 07811 672460.

Two other artists have attracted our attention, we just love the work of Shropshire Photographer Simon Battison. Especially as so many of his shots are taken locally on the Long Mynd, his Tamworth pig photograph is proving to be a hit too!

Lucinda lewis art

Lucinda Lewis has also joined us this year – we really like her work – especially because her illustrations are of our very own animals here at Acton Scott – there is a short story on the back of each print which relates to the picture.

The other artist who does so much on our own animals is Emma Lawrence and we are very pleased to see her back with an enhanced range for the 2016.  Emma has also written a book called The Worm which we are also stocking, we are hoping to run an author event with her soon.

Inside the shop image

Please do tell your friends and Family about the shop and note that now the shop is at the entrance you don’t have to visit the farm so you can just pop in for freshly laid eggs, butter and new this year are our own Acton Scott sausages.   If you are out and about walking the countryside round here, why not pop in for an ice cream, or bag of fudge!  The Old School House Café is also available to passing walkers and cyclists.  Like us they are open Saturday to Wednesdays or why not talk to Wayne about a private booking!

George pig

Our mascot, George Pig

Farm mascot George Pig visited the café over Easter, he particularly loved the chocolate cake!
