Paws for Thought!
Colourful new signs designed by pupils at Sound Primary School are now on display around Lerwick, encouraging dog owners to clean up after their pets. The project, developed with support from local partners including the Council's Environmental Health Team, saw pupils learn about the health and environmental impacts of dog fouling before creating over 70 eye-catching designs. Seven winning posters have been transformed into outdoor signs and installed at key locations across the town, helping spread an important community message in a creative and positive way.

Parents and Carers Invited to Shape Future Childcare Provision
Parents and carers across Shetland are being encouraged to take part in a new Council consultation on local childcare services. The survey aims to gather views on the quality and accessibility of current childcare provision, identify any barriers families face, and explore future childcare needs across the isles. Feedback from parents and carers of pre-school and school-age children will help inform future planning and ensure high-quality childcare services continue to meet the needs of local families. The survey is open until 6 July 2026.

Workshops aim to encourage more women to stand for election
Elect Her are inviting women across Scotland to join free online workshops where they will provide all the information they need to help start a journey towards becoming a councillor.
Women will learn what councillors do, how to put themselves forward for selections, how to campaign, and what to expect in elected office.
Participants will hear directly from current councillors in Scotland about how they first got involved in politics and what their experience has been like since. There's also an opportunity to meet a network of other women considering putting themselves forward in the 2027 Scottish local elections, because we’re stronger together.
