The summer break is nearly here and in this edition there are some suggested holiday camps and activities in the What's On? section to keep your child or young person busy this summer.

SSENDIAS will remain open over the summer holidays and we are still here to answer any questions you may have!
Our phonelines are open as usual:
- Monday-Wednesday 9am-3:30pm
- Thursdays & Fridays 9am-1pm

It's been another busy year at SSENDIAS and we've been working hard to fulfil the number of referrals we have received.
This year so far we have received 3533 referrals
Supported 366 families through the Tribunal process
Supported 134 young people
366 professionals asked SSENDIAS for advice and guidance on SEND processes and duties

Parent Information Sessions
We have increased the number of parent sessions we now offer!
We are still running sessions on SEN Support, EHC needs assessments and checking a draft EHCP, but we now also offer sessions on:
- Suspensions and Exclusions
- Your options following decisions from the local authority relating to an EHC needs assessment or an EHC plan.
- Mediation
- Completing appeal application forms
- What to expect from the Tribunal process.
We will also be adding sessions on Post-16 and annual reviews, so keep an eye on our website and Facebook page!

We are making SSENDIAS even more accessible for parents by offering some new online advice appointments where parents can book a 15 minute video-call slot with a caseworker to get some advice.
These sessions are not available for parents who have an existing appointment with us or have already been allocated a caseworker.
We have two dates coming up:
- 11th August, appointments available from 1pm
- 17th September, appointments available from 10am

To join you must attend a school in Sheffield, receive benefits-related free school meals and have a HAF code

Preparing for Adulthood

Preparing your child for adulthood can start at early as year 9, so it's work looking into what resources and support are available.

Dates to remember...
If your child is moving between phases of education you must apply for their school by the following dates:

Nursery to Primary / Infants -15th January 2027

Infants to Juniors - 15th January 2027

Primary / Junior to Secondary - 16th October 2026 for online applications, 31st October 2026 for paper applications

Secondary to Post 16 - 31st January 2027
If you have any questions or would like more information about the process, click here.
If your child or young person has an EHC Plan, and is due to transition from nursery to primary, Y2 to Y3 (not in a through primary school) or Y6 to Y7, you will receive an email over the summer holiday from SENDSARS (SEND Statutory Assessment and Review Service) asking for your parental preferences, the deadline to submit these will be during September, all information will be in the letter you receive.

If your child has an EHC Plan and is due to transition from Y11 to Post 16 you will receive a letter in September asking for preference by end of Oct 2025.
