We all want to live in a clean, safe and pleasant neighbourhood. When it comes to disposing of bulky waste or clearing out unwanted items, it’s important to know your householder’s duty of care to help prevent fly-tipping.
.What you shouldn't do:
- Don't leave items anywhere other than a permitted site, including outside the curtilage/boundary of your property, next to bins, on grass verges or in alleyways. This is classed as fly-tipping.
- Don't use someone to take away your rubbish without checking they're licensed as this can lead to waste being dumped. You could be held responsible and receive a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN).
What you can do instead:
- Book a council bulky waste collection.
- Take items to one of the five designated Household Waste Recycling Centres.
- Use a licensed waste carrier - remember it's your responsibility to check they're registered.
Help us to reduce fly tipping
