An artist impression of the new Fargate
We're transforming Fargate into a central destination for eating, drinking, socialising, co-working, shopping, living, and culture.
We are into the final few weeks of construction work on Fargate.
Our construction partner Sisk & Son Ltd is laying the remaining areas of paving near Hotel Chocolat and the new planted beds (otherwise known as SUDs - sustainable urban drainage systems) are almost finished.
The majority of work on the transformation of Fargate's street scene will be complete by March.
Want to know more about how we're creating a cleaner, greener, more vibrant city centre fit for the future?
The planted SUDs will bloom when established
The SUDs will be planted in the next few weeks and these plants need time to grow. This means we can look forward to them blooming in the months and years ahead.
Fences around the beds will protect them while they become established.
We have carefully selected the best plants for the beds, including over 80 emergent shrubs, seasonal bulbs and more than 20 single and multi-stem trees.
An artist impression of Event Central
Work on Fargate's exciting new cultural hub, Event Central, is due to start in summer. To avoid damage to new paving, the area immediately outside the building will be paved once the work is complete.

Pinstone Street
We’re starting work on our Connecting Sheffield: City Centre project to make walking, wheeling, and cycling easier.
During the week beginning Monday 10 February, we’ll begin to replace some of the kerbing outside the Town Hall on Pinstone Street. This initial phase will involve a short stretch of footway and a layby, and we’ll finish here in early April. We’ll complete the rest of this section in a later phase of work.
We’ll also start making a section of the temporary pedestrianisation at the other end of Pinstone Street permanent, and we expect this area to be finished in May.
When the work is complete, these areas on Pinstone Street will be more attractive and improving the footways will make it easier to get around our cleaner, greener, thriving city centre.
Connecting Sheffield: City Centre will also see further improvements to the rest of Pinstone Street, Surrey Street, Charles Street and Arundel Gate. The new bus hub on Rockingham Street, the introduction of the Sheffield Connect free city centre bus service, and the Arundel Gate bus gate have already been completed, as well as rerouting bus services to make journeys by bus more reliable.
