Our Streets Ahead service will continue to operate 24/7 - even on bank holidays.
If you need to report any issues, such as fallen trees, flooding or any other problems on the highways, you can report these online or by calling 0114 273 4567.
Bin collections over Christmas and New Year
There are some changes to bin collections over the Christmas and New Year period.
- Thursday 26 December collections will be on Friday 27 December
- Friday 27 December collections will be on Saturday 28 December
- Wednesday 1 January collections will be on Thursday 2 January
- Thursday 2 January collections will be on Friday 3 January
- Friday 3 January collections will be on Saturday 4 January
All other bin collections will take place as normal and you can view your bin collection calendar online.
Extra festive recycling and waste
Blue bins
Small amounts of additional paper and card can be tied in a bundle and put next to blue bins for collection.
Black bins
Between Friday 27 December and Thursday 23 January, up to 2 bags of extra general waste will be collected.
The extra non-recyclable waste should be put into a black bag, tied, and then put out for collection next to the black bin.
Brown bins
Between Friday 27 December and Thursday 23 January, extra tins, cans and plastic bottles can be placed inside a carrier bag, tied and then put out for collection next to the brown bin.
Glass bottles or jars must be placed inside brown bins, otherwise the extra recycling will not be collected.
Household Waste Recycling Centres
All Sheffield Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and will be open from 9:30am to 3pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Welcome Places
We support a network of Welcome Places across the city. These are spaces where you can go to stay warm, feel safe and welcomed, and access support.

Food support
Food support in Sheffield is provided in lots of ways by many organisations. This includes food banks, food pantries, social eating spaces and community groceries.

Damp, mould and condensation
During the colder months it is more common for homes to suffer from damp, mould and condensation problems.
Visit our website for information on how to help prevent and manage damp, mould and condensation in your home.
If you are concerned about damp and mould in a council or private rented property, you can report it online.
Housing opening hours
We will be working as hard as ever to deliver services to you over the Christmas holiday period. However, there will be some changes to our services.
Neighbourhood Offices are open as normal on 24 December and then closed until 2 January 2025. Opening times can be found on our Neighbourhood Offices webpage.
The Housing Contact Centre (0114 293 0000) will close 24 December at 5.30pm and reopen 2 January 2025.
The Repairs Contact Centre (0114 273 5555) will close 24 December at 6pm except for urgent and emergency repairs, and reopen 2 January 2025 .
Our Out of Hours Contact centre will be open at all other times: 0114 273 4567
All our services will resume as normal on 2 January 2025.
Support for rough sleepers
Support and advice is available for people who sleep rough or are at risk of doing so.
This includes the Sheffield Street Outreach Service which helps people find accommodation and support.
Overnight accommodation is offered to anyone who would be sleeping rough during extremely cold weather.
