Grass cutting on Bochum Parkway, Sheffield
Despite the very wet weather earlier in the grass cutting season, the current programme is almost back on track - thanks to the teams who have been working around the clock to catch up and the current dry spell of weather.
Did you know that the city's grass cutting programme is delivered on a ward-by-ward basis and a weekly list is published on the Streets Ahead website?

Resurfacing on Southgrove Road
There's a busy programme of resurfacing work taking place across the city this summer.
The resurfacing works will include roads and pavements and while we do understand the inconvenience this may cause, it is vital this work takes place.
Should you be directly affected by any work, we will write to you directly with detailed information including the actual start date of the work and how long we expect it to take to complete the works.
Also included in the letter will be a list of the most common questions and answers around the resurfacing works, addressing issues such as access, parking and signs.
Did you know the dates on display signs on the roads/footpaths are different to the dates to those which we include in the letter to residents? This is to represent the actual time allocated to complete the works.

A Barn Owl
After identifying the depot in Ecclesfield as an area with biodiversity potential, a variety of nesting boxes have been installed to encourage wildlife in the area.
These include boxes for sparrows, once common birds, whose numbers have reduced by 60% over the last 40 years and starlings, whose numbers have reduced by some 80% during the same timeframe.
There are also nesting boxes installed for barn owls too.
Their numbers have declined dramatically and there are only an estimated 4,000 pairs left in the UK, partly due to the loss of roosting and nesting sites in old farm buildings that have either been demolished or converted into other uses.
Other birds of similar sizes and nesting habits may also utilise these boxes as there is enough accommodation for up to 13 nests in the boxes that have been installed.
We look forward to sharing updates with you should any of our feathered friends set up home in the boxes.
Gritting fleet in the depot at the end of the 2023/24 winter maintenance period
It may be the height of summer but we're already planning for winter!
The winter maintenance season starts on 1 October and in preparation, teams have been auditing grit bins, replacing any damaged bins, and re-labelling each of them.
Some of you may have already seen the teams out and about these past few weeks refilling the 2,200+ grit bins across the city.
Next month, we'll see the return of the gritters to the depot to be checked over and ready to deal with whatever the weather has in store of us this winter.
