The Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team appreciates there continues to be delays in the housing element of the regeneration project, which has seen the estimated cost rise significantly. Some building activities included in the masterplan have nearly doubled during the previous 18 months. Despite these challenges, the team remains committed to progressing other regeneration projects, as highlighted above. We will be seeking out opportunities over the next few months to work with development partners, for example, housing associations, to help us to deliver new homes. We are also planning to start carrying out surveys on our Council properties in the autumn so we can start to progress the planned investment work.
We have also been working across the Council to make sure we are working together to get things done for Gleadless Valley. This means sharing knowledge and experience across all elements of the masterplan which should help us start to move forward on a variety of different activities later this year.
Tenants, residents, and partners will be the first to receive updates on developments regarding the housing element of the regeneration project. The regeneration project is a collaborative effort with the community—we are here to listen and value your feedback. You can reach us by telephone (0114 273 6369), email enquiregleadlessvalley@sheffield.gov.uk, or arrange in-person meetings to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
A Heartfelt Thank You and Congratulations!
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Sally for her incredible 15 years of dedication and hard work as the Gleadless Valley TARA. Sally, your commitment and passion have made a tremendous impact on the community. Your leadership and tireless efforts have truly made Gleadless Valley a better place for all of us.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome and congratulate Matt Lawson on being elected as the new TARA! We are confident that Matt will continue the amazing work and bring fresh ideas and energy to the community.

Repairs Update
Many of you have expressed concerns about outstanding repairs in your homes. We have listened and raised these issues with the repairs team. The planned repairs team has established a task force to tackle all outstanding repairs in homes identified in the masterplan for potential demolition. These repairs will be prioritised and aim to be completed in the autumn. Following this, the team will address the remaining backlog of repairs across Gleadless Valley. The team will prioritise these repairs based on when they were logged and their severity. If you need to report a repair, please follow this link or call 0114 273 5555.
Thank You for Your Feedback on Spotswood Green Space Designs
A big thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the Spotswood Green Space designs. We received 69 responses, with nearly 60% in favour of the proposed designs. Your engagement and support are crucial as we strive to create spaces that meet the community's needs and preferences.
One of the main concerns raised was around anti-social behaviour. We are committed to addressing this issue and ensuring your concerns are heard. Using your feedback, we are making improvements to the designs to enhance safety and usability. Once the amended designs are complete, we will share them with you.

Paddock Hill and Castelayn Demolition Update
Thanks to the Brownfield Land Release Fund 2, administered by One Public Estate (OPE), Paddock Hill has now been successfully demolished. Contractors are scheduled to begin work on Castelayn and will be on site 15th July. Before demolition can take place, we first need to encourage several bats present in the building to roost at an alternative location. Due to a lack of trees in the nearby area, we will be installing bat boxes on the outside of the flats at Leighton Drive where the bats can move to instead. This work will take place at the end of July/beginning of August and will cause minimal short-term disruption and will not affect residents in the longer-term.
In line with this work, the demolition of Castelayn care home is scheduled for around the end of July/beginning of August. Once the demolition is complete, the debris will be cleared and grass will be sown on the site. We are currently exploring options for the affordable housing which will be built on the land and we will be in touch once a firm decision has been made on next steps.

Funding for Newfield Green and Gaunt Shopping Centres
Exciting news for Newfield Green and Gaunt Shopping Centres! Both areas are set to benefit from the Economic Recovery Fund (ERF), a grant supporting work to improve local high streets and encourage residents and visitors to spend their time and shop there. This plan, guided by the involvement of local businesses, aims to revitalise these shopping hubs by boosting local businesses and improving infrastructure. It’s a big step toward a brighter future for the area. We look forward to seeing these positive changes unfold!
Have you seen the new mural at Gaunt Shopping Centre?
Exciting news for Gaunt Shopping Centre! A vibrant new artwork mural, created by artist Sarah Yates from ‘Faunagraphic’, has been unveiled, adding colour & creativity to the community space. This beautiful mural was made possible through the generous funding from the South Area Local Area Committee (LAC), the Gleadless Valley Foodbank and Heeley Trust. The mural not only enhances the shopping experience but also reflects the spirit and unity of the neighbourhood. Come by and enjoy this wonderful addition to the local landscape!

Woodlands Primary School Charity Shop Fundraising
Woodlands Primary School is excited to announce plans for a new charity shop on school grounds at Norton Avenue, S14 1SL. Housed in a large metal hut, the shop will sell donated clothes, books, toys, and more to benefit students and the wider community. The PTA aims to raise £1,000 to cover the cost of the concrete base, purchasing, and setting up the hut. All proceeds from the shop will support school programmes and enrich the children's educational experience.
Can you help, or know someone who can? They're already 50% there - Check out their Go Fund Page.
Peregrine Falcon Box
To help manage the pigeon population in Gleadless Valley, we plan to install a peregrine falcon nesting box. Peregrine falcons are natural predators of pigeons, and this plan aims to create a balanced and healthier ecosystem in the area by encouraging these magnificent birds to settle here. Stay tuned for updates on our new feathered neighbours!
