Sheffield city centre is changing
A busy day on The Moor
If you haven't been into Sheffield city centre recently, you're really missing out.
It’s buzzing with people checking out their favourite spots, plus all the new places to eat, drink, work, shop, stay, relax, and play.
Our vision for the city centre – one that is cleaner, greener, and more vibrant – is coming to life.
Come on in. Discover Sheffield's changing city centre for yourself.

The way we use city centres in the UK – and elsewhere – is changing.
We're responding to this change by creating a city centre fit for the future. Somewhere that has great shops, and much more besides.
The Heart of the City is opening up (home to the new Radisson Blu hotel, Pounds Park, and Cambridge Street Collective). New developments like West Bar and the transformation of Fargate and the Sheffield Castle site are continuing at pace. And plans for the Cole Brothers building are taking shape.

We are introducing new ways of living in the city central area by providing 20,000 new homes in the next 15 years.
New communities in Neepsend, Furnace Hill, Wicker Island, Castlegate, and Moorfoot will make the areas more vibrant. And the Heart of the City's new homes are already welcoming people of all ages.
City centre residents help to sustain more shops, restaurants, bars, and leisure venues, which we can all enjoy.

We’re making it easier for you to get to, and around, the city centre.
The zero-emission Sheffield Connect bus helps you move around the city centre quickly, easily, and for free.
We are improving pavements and cycle routes so you can make healthier, safer travel choices, and reduce your reliance on cars for short trips. If you do need to drive in, there are still 9,000 parking spaces in the city centre.
Our Clean Air Zone is improving air quality by reducing the number of polluting vehicles driving through the inner city. When there are fewer vehicles in the city centre, it's easier to cross roads and get around. Reducing city centre congestion also makes journeys by public transport quicker and more reliable.
All the new greenery and planting in the city centre looks great – and it’s working hard too. It’s helping to improve biodiversity, reduce the risk of flooding, and protect against climate change.
