We are thrilled to present the latest updates from the Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team! Here, you will find all the exciting developments within your community and how you can get involved.
We have been delighted to receive feedback from many of you regarding the proposed Spotswood Place Green Space. In our efforts to engage with the community, the team have been hosting in-person consultation events across the valley. Meeting with residents and tenants has been fantastic, and we deeply appreciate your participation and feedback.
However, we are eager to hear from even more of you! Your input is invaluable to us, so please do share your thoughts. To make your voice heard, simply follow this link.
On another note, we are seeking a football club to maintain the Hemsworth Playing Fields football pitches. The deadline for applications is Friday 5th April 2024 (more information below). Soon, you will witness your community football pitches undergo a refreshing transformation!
We understand that there have been delays in the housing works, primarily due to the high costs associated with building new houses. However, to kickstart the process and alleviate some of the financial burden, the Council will collaborate with other partners, including housing associations. We are actively forging these partnerships to accelerate the building process.
In recent news, the former Sheffcare site at Paddock Hill has been demolished, paving the way for the construction of affordable homes. This development aligns with our commitment to providing affordable housing options for all members of the community.
Furthermore, we are working closely with colleagues in Parks to explore the possibility of establishing a multi-use gaming area. Our aim is to ensure that this space is inclusive and tailored to the needs of the community. We will be reaching out to young people across the valley to gather their valuable input.
Additionally, we recently ran the first green space steering group, where we discussed strategies to tackle waste and fly-tipping. Moving forward, we will be organising various steering groups throughout the project's duration and would be delighted if you could join us. More information on how to get involved can be found below.
Thank you for being an integral part of the Gleadless Valley Regeneration journey. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for Gleadless valley.

Paddock Hill and Castelayn Demolition Update
Exciting update! Paddock Hill has been successfully demolished, thanks to funding from the central government's Brownfield Land Release Fund 2, administered by One Public Estate (OPE). However, the demolition of Castelayn is currently on hold due to bats roosting in the area.
Here's a brief overview:
Building Demolition: Planning permission for Paddock Hill's demolition was granted in 2023. However, Castelayn's demolition is paused for now due to the presence of bats. We will resume once the roosting season is over.
Site Purpose: While these sites were not originally part of the Masterplan, the funding enables us to develop new affordable housing, aligning with our commitment to regenerate Gleadless Valley.
Affordable Housing: The addition of new affordable homes in Gleadless Valley addresses the growing demand for quality, affordable housing, benefiting both current residents and future inhabitants of the area.

School Engagement Update: Empowering Young People in Gleadless Valley!
A vital aspect of our regeneration work is ensuring that young people of the community have a voice and a platform to share their opinions. We are grateful to all the schools for the opportunity to engage with their students. Our goal is to provide young people with the knowledge and encouragement to actively take part in the regeneration of Gleadless Valley.
Here's a snapshot of our recent activities:
Anns Grove Primary School: We are thrilled to have delivered 3 classes at Anns Grove Primary School. Students have been writing newspaper articles about the regeneration work in Gleadless Valley. It has been great to witness their enthusiasm and creativity as they delve into the details of the regeneration project.
Newfield School Assemblies: Our team has been busy delivering assemblies at Newfield School. These sessions aim to create an understanding of regeneration and spark an interest among students.
Architectural Inspiration: Year 8 students at Newfield School are working on an architecture project for their art class. We arranged for a Senior Architect to speak to them, sharing insights into the journey of becoming an architect. Hearing from a professional in the field is valuable for inspiring students and guiding them towards future career paths.
Ambassador Update: We are thrilled to announce the successful delivery of our first ambassador sessions at Bankwood Community Primary School and Springs Academy. Our student ambassadors have chosen to concentrate on the housing and the shared and green space strategies. We are excited to collaborate with them and are inspired by their enthusiasm and innovative ideas.
A big thanks to all the students and all the schools for their continued support.
