Make sure your child is up to date with their MMR vaccinations. Check their vaccination status by calling your GP surgery or by checking your child’s ‘Red Book’.
Health services across the country are seeing an increase in the number of cases of measles.
We are encouraging parents/carers to check whether their children are fully vaccinated and take up the offer of an MMR vaccine. If you are in Sheffield, free drop-in clinics are available – no need to book.
Measles is a viral illness that can be serious and sometimes fatal. Spending 15 minutes with someone who's got measles is enough to get the virus.
Symptoms of measles include high fever, runny nose, cough, red and watery eyes and small red spots with a bluish-white centre inside the mouth. A rash can appear later, usually on the face, upper neck, hands and feet, fading after 5 to 6 days.
