With sleet and some snow in the forecast, especially on higher ground, our gritting teams will be busy keeping Sheffield moving this week.
You can find all our winter information on our website, from details of our gritting routes to the location of your nearest grit bin. If your nearest grit bin is empty, let us know so we can refill it.
Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) for daily updates of when our teams will be gritting Sheffield’s roads during the winter.

During the colder months it’s more common for homes to suffer from damp, mould, and condensation problems.
We have a dedicated reporting line for damp and mould in properties, whether it be a council property or a private rented one.
If you see signs of damp, mould, or condensation, report it to us by calling our Damp and Mould Helpline on 0114 273 5555 and select option 2.
Sign up to get information, news and alerts on changes to bin collections, collection disruptions, household waste and recycling centres and general bin news straight to your email.
Flu and Covid-19 vaccines reduce the risk of serious illness in colder months. If you have an ongoing health condition, are pregnant or over 65 years old, you may be able to get your vaccines for free.
Most children can get the children’s flu vaccine, including children aged 2 to 3 years, school-aged children (Reception to Year 11) and children with certain health conditions.
If you are 65 or over, you're also eligible for the pneumococcal vaccine, which will help protect you from pneumonia.

School winter weather alerts
In the event of extreme weather, schools in Sheffield have different ways of communicating with parents about closures, delayed openings or early closures.
Please check with your school or local parent groups on how this is done for your child's school if you are unsure.
We run a school alerts system in the event of extreme weather which is available to all schools in Sheffield but is optional so is not used by all schools.
