Poster for the World Boxing Cup: GB Open
Competition will be fierce at the World Boxing Cup: GB Open in Sheffield next week as more than 100 boxers from 16 countries fight in one of the final tune-up events before the Paris Olympics qualifier.
It's only the fourth elite, multi-nation, Olympic-style boxing competition to be held in Great Britain since London 2012, according to GB Boxing.
It will take place at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield between January 17 and 20.

Some of the world's strongest men will battle it out on Saturday, January 27 in the "ultimate showdown of strength" at Sheffield Arena.
The Steel City will host the competition which includes challenges called sandbag throw, carry and hoist, deadlift decision, axle press and castle stones.

Key heritage groups from around the city will join together for a celebration of Sheffield's rich history in a weekend-long fair at the Millennium Gallery.
Find out about the future of key historic sites and chat with more than 40 local groups who care for and promote Sheffield’s history and heritage.
Among the highlights, you will be able to learn about Sheffield as the home of football and how the 160th anniversary of the Great Sheffield Flood is being marked in 2024.

Renowned artist Phlegm documented daily life during the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of artworks.
The 67 pen and ink drawings shared in this new exhibition blur the reality of the pandemic with the imaginary world he has created throughout his career – one full of long-limbed forest creatures, fantastical contraptions and hybrid cities that seem to grow organically. The series goes on display alongside works from the city’s collection.

Bring your plants along to swap and share at the Dorothy Fox Education Centre in the Botanical Gardens.
All welcome (people and plants alike). Even if you have nothing to swap you can come along and take home a small plant as well as share tips and knowledge. There is a suggested entry donation of £3.

Learn new skills and meet new friends with these regular gardening get-togethers at this community flower allotment for women and girls.
Expect friendly faces, lots of tea and a real sense of accomplishment at the end of the session. No experience necessary, just come and give it a go.

Sheffield Cycle Tours, in partnership with Cycling UK, offers regular free led group rides.
The rides are either two or three hours long and suitable for everyone as the pace is slow and there are plenty of stops on the way.
You can hire a bike when you book if you do not already have one although bikes are limited.

If your new year resolution was to get fit in 2024, Sheffield Half Marathon is a fantastic and fun challenge to help you get in shape.
Thousands of people take part every year from novice runners to seasoned athletes. Some even run it in fancy dress! You can raise money for charity too.
It takes place on Sunday, April 7 so there are just over 12 weeks to train if you sign up and start now.
