Between Christmas and New Year, we are closed to all but essential services. Visit our SheffNews page for more information about the festive period.
Flu and COVID-19 vaccines reduce the risk of serious illness in colder months. If you have an ongoing health condition, are pregnant or over 65 years old, get your free vaccines.
Most children can get the children’s flu vaccine, including children aged 2 to 3 years, school-aged children (Reception to Year 11) and children with certain health conditions.
If you are 65 or over, you're also eligible for the pneumococcal vaccine, which will help protect you from pneumonia.
Roads and pavements
Our gritting teams remain on standby throughout the festive period, ready to respond to any forecast sleet, ice or snow.
You can report issues with roads and pavements as normal over the festive period.
For advice about saving energy and lowering your bills, visit our dedicated home energy efficiency page.
You can apply for help and free advice on a wide range of energy saving options from our new Warm Homes Scheme in partnership with energy experts, Agility Eco.
During the colder months it’s more common for homes to suffer from damp, mould, and condensation problems.
We have a dedicated reporting line for damp and mould in properties, whether they are council properties or privately rented.
If you see signs of damp, mould, or condensation, report it to us by calling our Damp and Mould Helpline on 0114 273 5555 and select option 2.
Please note that between 25 December 2023 and 2 January 2024, our Repairs Service are only dealing with urgent and emergency repairs.

School winter weather alerts
In the event of extreme weather, schools in Sheffield have different ways of communicating with parents about closures, delayed openings or early closures.
Please check with your school or local parent groups on how this is done for your child's school if you are unsure.
We run a school alerts system in the event of extreme weather which is available to all schools in Sheffield but is optional so is not used by all schools.
