December is here and the festive season is in full swing! There are many things to do around the city to get you into the Christmas spirit. There are also lots of free activities, not all Christmas related, to enjoy too.

Sheffield Cathedral has lots going on over the festive period including spectacular light shows, a Christmas tree festival, carol singing, services and music.

This year you can experience illuminations outside Sheffield Cathedral for free.
The forecourt will be open so everyone passing can watch the beautiful projections across the ancient walls of the cathedral and listen to an uplifting soundscape.

This year's festival promises to be the best yet with more than 40 trees decorated with the help of charities, community groups and the local business community. There are so many the cathedral couldn't fit anymore in!

 Sheffield Christmas markets in the city centre outside the Town Hall.
Christmas markets are taking place across Sheffield offering festive cheer, seasonal food and drinks and unique gifts.
This weekend there is the Firth Park Christmas makers market on Saturday and the festive edition of the Pollen Market at Peddler Warehouse on Sunday.
Next weekend the Walkley Christmas market and Meersbrook and Heeley Christmas yard sale are taking place on Saturday, December 16.
Looking for a special Christmas present? At the Millennium Gallery you’ll find gifts hand-crafted in workshops and studios across Sheffield, Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
As well as supporting local creatives, every purchase raises funds for the museum and galleries.

 City of Rivers exhibition display at Weston Park Museum.
Sheffield is a city born from its rivers, sculpting the landscape and powering the industries that made it prosper.
The City of Rivers exhibition brings together stories, artwork, film and photography to chronicle Sheffield's relationship with its waterways. Check out Weston Park Museum's website for full details.
