City centre street cleansing team clearing snow from the Moor in March this year.
With the weather forecast to remain cold this weekend, our gritting teams are on standby 24/7, ready to grit all of Sheffield's priority gritting routes when needed.
Our winter team has access to five local weather stations providing up-to-the-minute forecasts helping us to make quick decisions on when to send our gritting fleet out.
We grit 60% of Sheffield's roads, split into priority 1 and priority 2 routes.
We also clear snow from our busiest pavements and pedestrianised areas, for example around the city centre, hospitals and main retail areas. We do not grit any other pavements across the city but instead, we provide over 2,200 grit bins for public use.
If your nearest grit bin is empty, please report it to us online or you can message us on X (formerly Twitter) @sccstreetsahead.
You can read all about our winter service on our website, where you will find an interactive map of all our gritting routes and a map of all our grit bins.
