Amber cold-health alert issued
Together with the Met Office, the UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber cold-health alert for parts of England, including Yorkshire and The Humber.
The alert is currently in place from 6pm on Tuesday 28 November to 12pm on Tuesday 5 December.
Please do take extra care and look out for each other, especially older or vulnerable people. Guidance can be found on the UKHSA website.
Rough sleeping in cold weather
If you are concerned about someone sleeping rough in Sheffield, report it to Streetlink.
Call our Street Outreach Team free on 0800 066 5358 or text ‘SOTS’ followed by details of the person and location to 80800. If your call isn’t answered immediately, please leave a message with details and the location.
At evenings and weekends, call Housing Solutions on 0800 7311 689. If you call on behalf of someone, they must be with you at the time.

During the colder months it’s more common for homes to suffer from damp, mould, and condensation problems.
We have a dedicated reporting line for damp and mould in properties, whether it be a council property or a private rented one.
If you see signs of damp, mould, or condensation, report it to us by calling our Damp and Mould Helpline on 0114 273 5555 and select option 2.

Our gritting teams are on standby 24/7, ready to grit all of Sheffield's priority gritting routes when needed.
We grit 60% of Sheffield's roads, split into priority 1 and priority 2 routes.
We also clear snow from our busiest pavements and pedestrianised areas, for example around the city centre, hospitals and main retail areas.
We also provide over 2,200 grit bins for public use. If your nearest grit bin is empty, please report it online, or you can message Streets Ahead on X/ Twitter.

School winter weather alerts
In the event of extreme weather, schools in Sheffield have different ways of communicating with parents about closures, delayed openings or early closures.
Please check with your school or local parent groups on how this is done for your child's school if you are unsure.
We run a school alerts system in the event of extreme weather which is available to all schools in Sheffield but is optional so is not used by all schools.
