Gresley Road Tenants Hall
The Neighbourhood Team and Involvement Team are joining forces and organising a Cost of Living drop-in at Gresley Road Tenants Hall. This is the first in a series of Cost of Living drop-ins that will take place in all neighbourhoods over December and January.
Each drop-in will be specific to what is available in your local area.
At the Southwest drop-in there will be officers from Sheffield City Council Housing and Neighbourhoods, and organisations from the locally based voluntary sector, available to give advice regarding cost of living issues. They will give advice on reducing your energy costs, benefits information, warm spaces and food-banks.
Our rents section will be in attendance with an income specialist present. Confirmed to attend from the voluntary sector are Greener Greenhill, Foundation Community Grocery, Jordanthorpe Library and Meadowhead Christian Fellowship (MCF), Grace Food-bank, Terminus Initiative, National Energy Action (NEA), and Learn For Life.
Neighbourhood Walkabout

Ward Team Leader, Richard England sent this photograph taken during a recent walkabout.
Richard reports "On a crisp, November morning, Sheffield Council Housing Staff and partner agencies did a walkabout on the Reney/Edmund Close estate. We have regular walkabouts on our estates and TARA committee members are more than welcome to join us. It is an opportunity to highlight any issues or concerns – and check on progress that has been made.”
We plan to include scheduled walkabout days, times, and areas to be covered in future editions.

• The Gleadless team has introduced a new Sergeant. TPS Liz Williams brings with her a wealth of neighbourhood experience from her previous role within Northeast NPT. Liz is looking forward to the new challenge of policing the Southwest.
• Both the Gleadless and Sharrow teams completed Dark Nights Patrols throughout the Southwest area of on Halloween. During the patrols, they spoke with locals to ensure there was no issues within the local community, allowing children to go trick or treating safely. They responded to reports of fireworks being thrown on the road/towards buildings. They also increased patrols in the areas where fireworks were being set off. During the patrols, a vehicle was stopped, and the occupant was arrested after being found in possession of Class A and Class B drugs. After transporting them to custody, officers found a vehicle that had been stolen in a burglary. Enquires are ongoing to identify the suspect(s).
• They have attended the local Synagogues to provide safeguarding advice. Patrols have been conducted around the Jewish community to ensure that there were no issues within the local area after the ongoing conflict in Israel/Palestine.
• They have spoken with residents of Jordanthorpe and identified a location where stolen motorbikes were being stored. Ongoing work is being conducted to identify those responsible for storing the motorbikes there. Stolen bikes have been recovered and returned to the owner(s).
• Increased patrols across the Southwest of Sheffield to target burglaries in the area. During patrols, officers have been stopping vehicles and checking drivers’ documents. Searches of vehicles and people have been conducted.
• The Sharrow team have continued focussed patrols around Kenwood Hall Hotel to prevent vehicle crime in that location. They have extended working hours to ensure they provide a visible presence at key times and can target nominals that are impacting in this area. The team have regular meetings with staff and are looking at a problem-solving approach to reduce vehicle crime, by target hardening the area.

In the Southwest area of Sheffield, the issue of fly tipping not only detracts from the visual appeal of the area, but also raises concerns regarding the health and safety of its tenants and residents.
Addressing these challenges, the Estates team dedicates significant effort, removing an average of 50 to 60 tonnes of waste per month, constituting around 1100 individual instances of fly tipping. The scale of this undertaking highlights the substantial workload, to which the public pay for this waste removal through rent accounts.
To further combat fly tipping, community involvement is crucial. Residents are urged to report any witnessed incidents to their local Neighbourhood Officer, providing details about the perpetrators. By uniting efforts and utilising available resources, we can collectively make our streets safer and tidier.
Fortunately, there are more sustainable alternatives available to tackle this issue. Council tenants are entitled to an annual bulky item collection from Veolia (by contacting 0114 2734567), and public tips are available for responsible waste disposal.
