Changing Adult Care & Wellbeing Mental Health Services in Sheffield
You will have already heard about the change to the way Adult Care & Wellbeing mental health services are led and delivered in Sheffield. This is to provide you with more information.
From 1 April 2023, the management of mental health social care support will return to Sheffield City Council (SCC).
From April, the Council will carry out all mental health social care assessments under the Care Act 2014 and arrange care and support services.
Previously these functions were managed by Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC Trust).
What this means for you?
From 1 April, contact details for the Mental Health Social Care service (formerly the Mental Health Recovery teams) will change.

What this means for people receiving social care services
This change will not affect the social care arrangements of people receiving services. Their agreed care and support will continue and their financial contributions will not be affected.
Mental Health teams within the Council will continue to work in partnership with health professionals in SHSC Trust to provide the right support for people.
From April, people receiving health and social care services will be supported by SHSC Trust and SCC. People receiving social care services only will be supported by SCC.
What information have clients received?
The Council have written to people in receipt of services to tell them about the change to mental health support. The letter reassured them that this would not affect the care and support they receive and would not change their financial contributions.

Working together
The Council are fully committed to working with you to deliver high-quality and responsive care and support services for the people of Sheffield.
We will continue to work together with Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust, other health partners, and with voluntary and community organisations – all of us dedicated to providing the best joined-up health and social care services.
Making our services better
There are lots of things we’re doing to improve adult social care in Sheffield. This change is part of our 10-year plan to make services in Sheffield better.
Often people need a range of support, with a disability, with a mental health condition, with ageing. This change will mean our mental health support works better together with all the other support we provide.
The change will also mean we can provide mental health support earlier, as part of our early help and recovery services. And by managing our services together, the Council can make improvements that help to deliver better quality services.
You can read more about this change on the Council website.
