Changing Futures Programme & SYHA  Training Workshops

There is a new opportunity linked with the Changing Futures Programme and SYHA hoping to start March/April 2023 to support individuals experiencing multiple disadvantage in the transition from recovery to community living and employment options. It is a six week course delivered by Sheffield United Community Foundation that combines physical health and classroom based training workshops focusing on confidence building, life skills etc to increase employability. It isn’t just for people who are interested in football or sports. Everyone can benefit. It is likely that it would run on Wednesdays at SUFC (specific dates tbc), with the training in the morning and multi-sports in the afternoon.

Please could you communicate this to your service users and identify individuals who may benefit from this course and let Nicole Adams at Voluntary Action Sheffield know of any interest as soon as possible. There will be a maximum of 8 places on any given course. The content of the training is also to be confirmed, Nicole can send a list of the different options available if you are interested. 

No More-Stand With Us Campaign

South Yorkshire Police have launched the No More-Stand With Us campaign for Women, who are in need of assistance on a night out? Street pastors, police officers and door staff can all offer practical support, whether that’s getting women or someone else to safety, or administering first aid.

Is there anywhere in South Yorkshire that you avoid? If there’s anywhere you find intimidating, please let us know through the Street Safe tool . This lets police and councils know where to focus patrols, CCTV and additional lighting, so Sheffield's communities can be a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

START's Aftercare Programme

Many people successfully leave treatment services and face additional challenges in maintaining their success. A great deal of evidence suggests that recovery capital and connection is vitally important in sustaining recovery and long-term positive change. START Aftercare programme, with the support of Recovery Ambassadors/peers, aims to help reduce social isolation and help create opportunities to connect with others in a healthy way. It aims to allow individuals to see visible recovery, increase hope and build motivation to sustain recovery and enable the increase of recovery capital.

START Aftercare programme will be available for all individuals following discharge from treatment. The programme will be facilitated by START's Recovery Workers and Recovery Ambassadors/peers. Recovery Ambassadors will act as guides, mentors and advocates for recovery throughout the duration of the programme.

The programme will consist of 12 sessions delivered over 6 weeks focussing on transitioning from treatment and maintaining a substance free lifestyle. Topics will cover education, training and employment, increasing knowledge of further support options, managing changing relationships, relapse prevention and emotional health/resilience.  For more information please contact carl.bridden@shsc.nhs.uk or phone on 0114 3050500

Changing Futures Training Launch Event 

Here is some exciting news about the forth coming Changing Futures Training launch event, led by Project 6, which is being held at St Mary’s Church, Bramall Lane, Sheffield on February 17^th 2023, 9.30am – 1.00pm.  

The aim is to help better equip frontline staff, and others, to help support people experiencing multiple disadvantages. Changing Futures training packages have been developed through talking with organisations across the city and coproduced alongside people with lived experience of multiple disadvantages and we are now offering a broad range of free training opportunities.

Changing Futures training information is now live and can be found on the Project 6 website

College of Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (CLEROs)

Inspiring Change

CLEROs was started by dedicated and visionary founding members back in 2020, the College of Lived Experience Recovery Organisations has grown into an impactful Community & Movement. 

Mission: The aim is to develop a Recovery Strategy that is signed up to by key leadership figures and organisations from the (addiction) recovery sector in the UK. The focus will be on Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (LEROs), and has the idea of active citizenship at its core. CLEROs want to build coherence, trust, credibility and consensus for recovery groups and communities based on a model that promotes an evidence-based approach predicated on Lived Experience. This model will have at its heart:  A Human Rights framework Core values and principles based on Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC)

Underlying principles: Principle 1: LEROs are Informed by a primary relationship with their community and act in response to the needs and aspirations of their community, recognising and employing the assets and competencies that already exist. Principle 2: Everything done in and by a LERO is informed through co-production Principle 3: LEROs are informed by a Human Rights-based approach, including the right to live healthy lives.

Shelter Future Vacancies

Shelter are wanting to make people and agencies aware that they are going to be advertising for 2 x vacancies for the role of Tele-Fundraising Intern at Shelter in Sheffield in the near future. 

The Tele-Fundraising Internship gives people with experience of homelessness and other disadvantages (including but not limited to; experience of the criminal justice system, mental ill-health, money/debt issues or substance misuse) access to paid employment, training and personal development opportunities. The internship lasts for up to 12 months, and each Intern receives training and enhanced support to give them the skills and confidence they need to secure meaningful employment at the end. This is an opportunity to learn skills, gain on the job experience and be supported to move on to employment after the internship.

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for many supporters seeking information about Shelter’s work; they will have excellent communication and administrative skills and a real interest in housing issues. Their tasks will include calling existing supporters to welcome them to the organization, thanking them for choosing to support us, undertaking quality control surveys and ensuring the accuracy of supporter data.

Sector Routeways gives local people the opportunity to gain skills, undertake work experience and enter sustained employment in one of Sheffield’s growth sectors.

Each routeway consists of 2 weeks of training, with a work placement shortly after. Previous qualifications and experience are not required. Future ‘bootcamp’ start dates are:
