SEND services - Educational Psychology Service, Traded offer
The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is introducing a partially traded offer from September 2022. It has contacted schools directly about this.
The changes to the offer means:
- All schools will be allocated a ‘without-cost’ core offer. (This is regardless of whether they subscribe to the EPS traded offer).
- The size of this core offer relates to the size of the school, level of social deprivation, and prevalence of SEND need.
- By doing this, we aim to make the amount of support fair and predictable to schools.
- Schools will also be able to buy an EPS subscription to extend the core offer.
Please note: The core and subscription time is separate to time spent on statutory (EHCNA) assessments. But it needs to include all other work in and with schools. For example, casework, training, meetings, and attending panels.
We are encouraging schools to use their sessions collaboratively with other schools. This will allow the time to go further. For example, for shared training and locality work.
Schools were asked to subscribe to the service by 5 June. If you missed this deadline, please contact Deborah Page, Principal Educational Psychologist, as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate your request.
Extending the offer
We would like to extend the traded offer over time. But for now, we are starting small due to limited capacity. We cannot guarantee that sessions will be available to buy throughout the year.
We think the partially traded arrangements will allow us to increase EPS capacity. This would mean we can develop the range of services offered to schools.
We will monitor this. We will let schools know if, and as soon as, the EPS offer can increase.

Support
Our Autism and Social Communication (ASC) Service continues to develop the offer of support to education settings. Key members of the team are being trained to coach and mentor. This is to support staff in embedding Quality First Teaching Practices for autistic pupils, after taking part in training.
This approach ensures joint accountability and will result in better outcomes for pupils.
