Summer Celebration Event
21st July 2022
invitation to stall-holders
The pandemic was tough for us all, and we know that lots of TARAs and other community organisations worked hard to continue to support our tenants through those tough times, and continue to do so. We have so many wonderful organisations working in our communities, and would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to those, and get people together to share the work they do and celebrate their achievements.
To bring everyone together for the first time since restrictions were lifted, we are holding a ‘Community Celebration’ on Thursday 21st July 2022 10am – 2pm at St Mary’s Church on Bramall Lane. If you are a TARA or other organisation working with our Council tenants, we’d love to include you in the event – so others can see the work you do and learn from your experience.
Organisations from across the city are being invited to have a stall, and it won’t be anything too formal. We’ll give you a space to display pictures / information / leaflets, etc about your organisation, and people at the event will be able to visit the stalls they’re most interested in and have a chat over a cuppa and cake.
We’ll also be sharing information about our Community Fund Scheme, which offers grants to organisations running projects to support tenants – offering advice on how to apply, and sharing the successes of projects previously funded by the scheme.
If you would like a stall at the event, or more information, please email us at GetInvolved@sheffield.gov.uk or give us a ring on 0114 2735566.

Update from Housing and Neighbourhoods Partnership Group, 16th May 2022
Aware of how much the cost of living is increasing for us all, our latest Partnership Group session focused on the financial support available to our tenants and leaseholders.
Representatives from the Sheffield Credit Union, Citizens Advice Sheffield and the Council’s Income Management and Financial Inclusion Team (IMFIT) were on hand to provide information and answer questions. The session was well attended and there were some really good discussions.
Sheffield Credit Union talked about the safe loans they offer, and how they can help borrowers stay safe from high cost and illegal lenders. More information about their services can be found on their website: www.sheffieldcreditunion.com
Citizens Advice Sheffield gave information about the free, confidential and impartial advice they can give on a wide range of issues including welfare benefits, debts, housing, immigration and employment. More information about their services is available on their website: www.citizensadvicesheffield.org.uk
IMFIT presented information on the support they can give to tenants struggling to pay their rent – including discussing individual circumstances, giving advice about rent payments, agreeing reasonable payment arrangements and making referrals to support agencies. More information can be found on the Council’s website: Help paying your rent (sheffield.gov.uk)
So all in all a really useful session! We will be in touch when the next Partnership Group is arranged – and will hopefully see some of you there.

Council Tax Rebate
As part of its response to rising energy bills, the government has introduced a ‘Council Tax Energy Rebate’. Most households in council tax bands A - D will receive a one-off upfront rebate of £150. This is to help households with rising energy costs. You do not need to apply and you do not have to pay it back.
If you pay your Council Tax by direct debit, the payment will be paid direct to your bank account. The aim is to have made most payments by the end of May 2022. If you have recently set up your Council Tax direct debit, your Council Tax Energy Rebate will be paid to you after the Council has received your first Council Tax payment. This is to ensure your bank details are correct.
If you do not pay your Council Tax by direct debit, you will be sent a voucher which you can take to any Post Office and cash for £150. The voucher will tell you what type of identification you need to take with you to cash it and what you can do if you are unable to visit the Post Office yourself. The Council aims to start issuing these vouchers from the end of May 2022.
Further details around the eligibility criteria for the Council Tax Energy Rebate can be found on the GOV.UK website here:
