The Late Fred Hobson
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Fred Hobson, Chair of Darnall Tenants and Residents Association. Fred retired from Sheffield City Council's Waste Disposal Team in the late 1990’s and became a well respected member of the Darnall Community, joining the TARA in the early 2000’s. Later becoming Chair for over 10 years, he organised many welcomed trips and was always there with a helping hand and a cuppa. Fred had a passion for his community and this is a big loss to those he worked so hard to represent over the years.

The Late Pauline West
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Pauline West. She was very active in the Firshill TARA as Secretary and Chair on numerous occasions. One of her special achievements was making the way to school safer for children on the estate. She was a member of the East Area Board before joining the Board of Sheffield Homes as a Tenant Director and Deputy Chair. Pauline wanted above all for people to take pride in their communities and for that reason was passionate about tenant involvement in the management of social housing.
Apart from her involvement in the TARA she was also active in the Labour Party, was a Shop Steward for the TG&WU and was active in her church community. She was also an avid attender of adult education classes.

February's LGBT+ History Month was founded 18 years ago by Schools OUT, a charity making educational institutions safe spaces for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities.
2022 sees the 50th anniversary of the very first Pride March in the UK in 1972. A popular slogan of the early Gay Rights Movement of the time was “the personal is political”, and art is probably the most individual of pastimes. So it seemed logical, as they have a National Curriculum link to their theme every year, to choose Art for 2022.
To celebrate the anniversary, Schools OUT looked for five artists (one each to represent the L,G,B,T and ‘+’ of the community) who had used their talents for “political” ends, or expressed their orientation through their work and decided on Five Faces for 2022. Keith Haring‘s dancing figures are a perfect example as they were used to draw attention to the growing AIDS crisis of the early 1980s. Doris Brabham Hatt and Fiore de Henriquez both fought against fascism in the 1930s. Jean-Michel Basquiat began as a graffiti artist and Mark Aguhar‘s life “and mere existence was an act of confronting white hegemony”.
Events across the country will be honouring queer history and the importance of art in the struggle towards justice.
