SEND Local Area Re-visit, 21-23 February

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have told us they will be coming back to Sheffield to carry out a three-day, joint, local area SEND re-visit.

SEND stands for special educational needs and disabilities.

The re-visit will take place from Monday 21 February to Wednesday 23 February.

What is the re-visit for?

The purpose of the re-visit is to identify if Sheffield has made sufficient progress in addressing the areas of weakness identified in 2018.

As a reminder:

Seven areas of significant weakness were identified in our 2018 inspection.
An action plan was produced to describe how improvements would be made. Organisations in Sheffield – including the council, health services, schools and Sheffield Parent Carer Forum – worked together on this.

What will happen?

The inspectors will meet children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and their parents and carers.

They will also meet professionals from across the local area. This includes:

Sheffield City Council
NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
Health services
Schools and education settings

We will send invitations for meetings with professionals, following discussion with the inspectors. The timetable for this will not be known until Monday 14 February.

Parents and carers, please give your views during the inspection.

You can:

Take part in an online survey at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SheffieldCityCouncilRe-VisitLASEND/. The survey will open at 12 noon on Monday 14 February and close at 12 noon on Friday 18 February 2022.
Email your views about whether things have improved since the last inspection in November 2018. Email: Lasend.support@ofsted.gov.uk.
Contact Sheffield Parent Carer Forum to:
- Tell them about your experiences, so they can include this in their overall feedback to the inspectors. (You can contact them on Facebook, call them on 0300 321 4721 or email enquiries@sheffieldparentcarerforum.org.uk)
- Find out more about how you can give your views in the re-visit. The inspectors will hold an online parent carer meeting. Details will be published by SPCF.

Virtual meetings

As part of the re-visit, the inspectors will seek the views of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and their families.

Three virtual meetings have been scheduled. The meetings will be via Microsoft Teams. Please see details below.
