Training for professionals and practitioners
1. New course: SENCO train the staff - Planning and Writing outcomes
New training to help SENCOs train others in planning and writing outcomes.
The session, for Primary and Secondary SENCOs, will work through a 'train the trainer' package which SENCOs can then deliver with their own school teams.
Training covers review meetings, how outcomes are formed, what constitutes a well written outcome, and how outcomes should be supported and reviewed.

2. Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) training
The Sheffield speech and language therapy service is offering online learning modules on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

3. SCERTS
Training to develop and embed the SCERTS framework.
Aimed at primary, secondary, and special school practitioners, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, specialist teachers and other health, education and care professionals who support children with autism and social emotional learning differences.
3 December: SCERTS introduction/refresher training, £50 per participant
- A one-day virtual workshop to introduce the SCERTS® model.
- For anyone who was unable to attend the twilight sessions last year or would benefit from a reminder on SCERTS.
- Non-Sheffield based delegates also welcome.

Free workshops for Sheffield schools and services
Following the one-day introduction/refresher training, Sheffield schools and services are invited to free workshops from January to July 2022.
The workshops are about implementing SCERTS to support three different cohorts of children and young people in mainstream and special schools.
- Social and Language Partners:
Four workshops focused at on using the SCERTS framework with children with autism and social emotional learning differences who are non-verbal or at the emerging language stage.
- Conversation Partner Stage in primary settings
Four workshops focussed on using the SCERTS framework with children with autism and social emotional learning differences in primary settings.
These children will be using words, phrases, and sentences. These may be spoken or using signs, pictures, symbols, and written words.
- Conversation Partner Stage in secondary setting/ upper key stage 2
Four workshops focussed on using the SCERTS framework with children with autism and social emotional learning differences in secondary settings. Primary colleagues may also want to attend to consider their upper key stage 2 children.
These children will be using words, phrases, and sentences. These may be spoken or using signs, pictures, symbols, and written words.
Before attending the workshops, delegates are advised to attend either:
- SCERTS twilight sessions which ran in December 20/January 21
- OR
- 3 December 2021 SCERTS introduction/refresher session.
