Together for our planet
As world leaders meet during COP26 to discuss the urgent climate crisis globally, people across Sheffield are working hard to promote initiatives that will allow us all to contribute towards the city's NetZero target and work 'Together for our Planet'.
Watch city leaders and passionate Sheffield folk who are making a difference talk about 'our journey so far'

Our Transitional Committee is considering the council’s 10 Point Plan for tackling the climate emergency. This includes putting climate at the centre of our decision-making, working with and supporting people, businesses, and organisations to take the action that is needed, and work to build the skills and economy we need for the future.
The committee are interested in your feedback on the 10 point plan, which needs to be submitted by Monday 8 November.
We have partnered with Kelham Island and Neepsend Community Alliance to showcase some of the work local communities and organisations are doing that will support Sheffield's target to be Net Zero by 2030.
This family friendly event is free and open to all, with sustainable food and urban greening talks, plus the chance to have a go at Hapa Zome - a leaf bashing creative activity
Yesterday's theme at COP26 was focussing on Energy. Find out how Sheffield Renewables are powering our city, by installing and operating community-owned solar panels. They’ve installed 4 sites which have generated 900,000 kw of clean electricity, which is enough to save 400 tonnes of carbon.
Bin collection lorry in Sheffield
Due to industrial strike action by Veolia waste and recycling collection staff, residents whose bins are emptied on Mondays may experience some disruption throughout November.
National Youth Work Week 2021
Running from 1 -7 November, this year’s theme is ‘Champions of Youth Work’.
We are using the opportunity to advocate for and highlight the important role youth workers play in the lives of our city’s young people.
Race Equality Commission
Sheffield’s Race Equality Commission has released its initial findings on the state of racial equality in the city – with some unsettling observations.
Hedgerow Market
Hedgerow Market has been rescheduled for the 4th December and will take place on Division St, hosting a range of artisan stalls and produce.
The market was originally planned to take place earlier this month. Hedgerow organisers will confirm more details soon.
Workers on the allotments
The Community Payback team, part of the Probation Service, has given Sheffield allotment owners a helping hand.
The group worked on the Roe Woods allotments for more than a year, helping to clear out overgrown plots to allow the new tenants to get started.

In last year’s referendum the people of Sheffield voted for a change to how our Council is run – choosing a committee system to replace the leader-cabinet model.
We’re now holding regular public engagement sessions to get your thoughts on how the new system should work. The next ones are now open for bookings:
- Monday 8 November, 17.30-19.30 at Burngreave Vestry Hall
- Wednesday 24 November, 10.00-12.00 virtual meeting online
Sessions are taking place alternately online and at venues around Sheffield. As soon as we have more venues and times confirmed you will be able to book through our Eventbrite pages.
Thank you for taking part in the community survey that ended on 31 October. We truly value and appreciate the information you have provided.
The feedback you gave us will help shape and inform the development of a Local Community Plan – one for each of the seven Local Area Committees - which will outline local priorities and the actions that will be taken.
Feedback from the survey will be shared in the coming weeks.
