Streets Ahead took advantage of a quieter city centre earlier this year by replacing the broken flagstones on Orchard Street, normally a busy pedestrian thoroughfare connecting Church Street to Leopold Street.
Work began in early March with four zones identified for completion over a ten-week period. The work itself was carried out by a team of Mason pavers with over 50 years’ experience between them. After initial excavation, all the old and damaged flagstones were removed before new block paving could be laid.
Our grass cutting programme is crucial to maintain sight lines at road junctions, ensure safe access routes and prevent the build-up of litter on verges across the city, which can prove hazardous to children, pets and wildlife.
Our updated programme of grass cutting, by ward, can now be viewed online.
Last week, members of our Street Cleansing team walked 10 miles around Ladybower Reservoir, raising money in memory of a colleague for Cancer Research UK.
Despite the wet weather, the team raised over an impressive £800! Well done all!
